It is based upon the Shipunov 2A42 gun used in the Russian designed BMP 2 infantry fighting vehicle. The BMP 2 vehicle along with the gun has been manufactured under license by India s Medak Ordnance factory as Sarath since August 1987. The Medak Gun is based on a modular and flexible in design.
