The book was divided into seven chapters The Road to Cathay , chiefly about Marco Polo To the New World , chiefly about Christopher Columbus Around the World , chiefly about Vasco da Gama , Ferdinand Magellan , and Sir Francis Drake Discoveries in the South Sea Islands South Seas , chiefly about Captain James Cook Light on the Dark Continent , chiefly about David Livingstone and Henry Morton Stanley The Search for the North West Passage , chiefly about Sir John Franklin and To the Ends of the Earth, which focused on Arctic exploration Arctic and Antarctica Antarctic exploration, and the mountain climbing exploits of Sir Edmund Hillary . The book was also well furnished with map s, including a series in which areas of the word were progressively revealed from being obscured with brown ink, showing the different areas of the world that Europeans had explored. Its specialty are high altitude mission insertions through the use of HAHO and HALO jump HALO jumps and reconnaissance of landing zones for other paratroopers to be dropped. It is also an operational unit for the Portuguese Rapid Reaction Brigade BRR Brigada de Reac o R pida , one of the three brigades that make up the Portuguese Army . The Unit The Companhia de Precursores Pathfinders Company also known by Precs is attached to the Parachute Troops School Airborne Support Battalion , of the School of Parachute Troops ETP . It is a key element for aerial infiltration, through operational free fall using HALO jump HALO and HAHO jumps , although the unit can be inserted by sea or ground transport. This unit was practically unknown by the Portuguese society in general and even on the Portuguese Armed Forces until very recently and is considered to be the elite of the Portuguese paratroopers.
