It is located on the A811 about 12 miles west of Stirling and is one of the smallest community council areas in Stirlingshire with a population of about 200. Arnprior gets its name from the Gaelic earrann meaning a division of land and in this case the Prior of Inchmahome owned the land. Walter Comyn, the Earl of Menteith, founded the Priory in 1238 so the name could be that old. There are other Arns in Arnprior and the surrounding area. Some indicate size e.g. Arnmore and others indicate previous owners e.g. Arnfinlay .
