VanHorn turned professional in 1984, just five days before his 16th birthday. He was given the nickname Schoolboy early in his pro career because he turned professional as a junior in high school. After 39 consecutive wins, VanHorn defeated Robert Hines to win the International Boxing Federation IBF Junior Middleweight Title on February 5, 1989. VanHorn lost the title in his first defense to the former World Boxing Council WBC Super Welterweight Champion Gianfranco Rosi by a unanimous decision on July 15, 1989. VanHorn won his next five fights and then had a rematch with Rosi in an attempt to regain the title. Their rematch took place on July 21, 1990, and although VanHorn put up a better effort, Rosi again won by a unanimous decision. George Van Horn February 5, 1850 May 3, 1904 was a United States House of Representatives U.S. Representative from New York . Born in Otsego, New York , Van Horn attended the common schools, the Cooperstown Seminary, and the New Berlin Academy . He studied law. He was Admission to the bar in the United States admitted to the bar in February 1871 and practiced in Cooperstown, New York . Van Horn was elected clerk of Otsego County in 1881 and reelected in 1884. Van Horn was elected supervisor of Otsego, and twice reelected. He served as member of the Democratic county committee. Van Horn was elected as a Democratic Party United States Democrat to the 52nd United States Congress Fifty second Congress March 4, 1891 March 3, 1893 . He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1892 to the 53rd United States Congress Fifty third Congress.
