The daughter of a tailor , Trig re was able to operate a sewing machine by age 10 and often assisted her dressmaker mother. Shortly after leaving school, Pauline was employed as a trainee cutter at Martial et Armand in the Place Vend me , Paris . While there, she met United States American designer Adele Simpson, who told her about the wonders of the New York fashion world. In 1937, aged 25, she moved to New York where she first found work at Ben Gerschel and later became assistant designer at Hattie Carnegie . The Tyrell family was one of the oldest and richest families in town. She and Peter Ames were engaged to be married, but was shocked to discover that he eloped with her younger sister, Ellen Ames . Pauline and Paulette original title Pauline & Paulette is a 2001 in film 2001 Belgian comedy drama film directed and co written by Lieven Debrauwer . The movie was the Belgian entry for the 74th Academy Awards Academy Awards 2001 in the category Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film Best Foreign Language Film but failed to receive the actual nomination. Cast Dora van der Groen as Pauline Ann Petersen as Paulette Rosemarie Bergmans as C cile Julienne De Bruyn as Martha Idwig Stephane as Albert Plot Pauline van der Groen is a little girl of 66 years old . She is mentally retarded and been cared after by her sister Martha. When Martha dies, her two younger sisters, Paulette Petersen and Cecile have to make a decision on the best place for Pauline to be looked after. Neither of them is ready to take care of her. Paulette has a shop to look after and Cecile has her Albert. But according to Martha s last will, her fortune will only be divided in three equal parts if one of the sisters looks after Pauline. If they decide to take her to an institution, Pauline will be the only heir.
