File Buenos Aires Club de Pescadores.jpg thumb right 200px Club de Pescadores, Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Club de Pescadores lang es Fisherman s Club is situated on the banks of the R o de la Plata in Costanera Norte Avenue, Buenos Aires , Argentina . The Club was founded in 1903 on an old pier built by a French company who used to tie up their coal boats there and discharge the coal into railway wagons waiting alongside. Some time later, when this activity had ceased and the condition of the pier had deteriorated, the fishermen who met there to practice their sport, decided to carry out repairs to the pier and to build a small shelter where they could store their belongings. On 10 August 1905 a violent storm on the river destroyed the pier. Despite this, club members were not put off and later continued their activities which by now included the organisation of regular fishing competitions. In 1926 a plan was initiated to construct a new pier with a building on it to house the social activities of the club. This received presidential consent in 1928 and construction of the pier was completed in 1930. The building on the pier, still in existence today, was designed by Jos N. Quartino and officially opened on 16 January, 1937 in the presence the President of Argentina Argentina president General Agust n Pedro Justo Agust n P. Justo . Declared a national historic monument in 2001, the building has become an icon of the city of Buenos Aires. Plot A fisherman goes out to fish at night on a jangada , a handmade seaworthy sailing raft used by fishermen of north eastern Brazil. His wife has a presentiment of something wrong and tries to stop him from going fishing that night. He goes anyway, leaving his wife crying and his kids scared. His wife waits the whole night for him on the beach, and around 5 00am, the usual arrival time, she sees the jangada. The fishermen have a very sad expression and some are even crying, but she does not see her husband. The fishermen tell her that her husband has fallen off the jangada by accident. As they start to withdraw the net, they find his body amongst the fish. His friends carry his body on their arms, in a traditional funeral ritual on the beach. The unhabitated Mao Yu and Cau Yu west of Cimei are also under its governance. Cimei is 6.99 square km in area with a coastline of 14.4 kilometers and with about 3,214 people. Composed mostly of basalt formations, Cimei ranks the fifth largest island in the Penghu Archipelago . Name The name of Cimei originally came from a historical story of the Ming Dynasty , in which seven women had to commit suicide when Japanese pirates raided the island. Cimei was named in 1949, as a replacement of its original name Da Yu , to commemorate the seven women and their tombs. It now also connotes seven beautiful things as the island s tourist attractions. They are the scenery, the sea water, local products, people s hearts, the geology, the architecture, and the history as indications of the seven beautiful characteristics of Cimei island.
