Life Taken to London aged 14 by his iron founder father to train for the family trade, Philip became increasingly interested in art and, with William Holman Hunt winning round his father, began taking evening drawing classes in the British Museum and from 1855 in the Royal Academy Royal Academy Schools . At the latter, he used the travelling studentship he won for his The Good Samaritan to fund a journey to Italy and France, remaining there until 1864. He was elected an associate of the Royal Academy in 1877 despite his talents and health already being on the wane , though he resigned it in 1900. His daughter Florence married the archaeologist Alexander Keiller and his eldest daughter, Gladys Morris 1879 1946 , married the noted British sportsman, journalist and editor, Bertram Fletcher Robinson . Morris is best known placing fifth in his Busch Series debut, the 1998 AC Delco 200 . However, he also ran in the Craftsman Truck Series as well and was in the Busch Series until 2001. He is now, as of 2011, a four time champion of NASCAR s Whelen All American Series National Championship, which is calculated as the best short track driver in NASCAR sanctioned racing. Craftsman Truck Series Career Morris made one career start in the Craftsman Truck Series, his major league NASCAR debut, which came in 1997. Starting 24th in the field at Martinsville Speedway Martinsville , Morris had an engine let go early and would finish last 36th . Busch Series Career Morris made his NASCAR Busch Series debut at the North Carolina Speedway in Rockingham, NC in November 1998, driving the 84 Baldauf Chevy. He started 12th and finished in the 5th position, a major impact in his debut. In 1999 he made 3 races driving the 01 Blue Ridge Motorsports Chevrolet. At the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March, he started the 01 Llumar Window Film Chevrolet in 8th and finished 35th, 3 laps down. Born in 1853, Morris came from a family of engineers and inventors. He invented a sliding bucket used for loading ships and other shipping devices. He helped the pioneering inventor John Philip Holland gain acceptance of his craft within the United States naval community. Mr. Morris was a good friend of the inventor and helped him out during a time when Holland was in financial trouble prior to the acceptance of The United States Navy s first commissioned submarine, USS Holland SS 1 . Morris served as the shipyard superintending engineer on the submarine project from 1896 1897. The pioneering submarine was purchased by the United States Government on 11 April 1900.
