It is located within the Manbij District Manbij and Jarabulus District Jar bulus districts of Aleppo Governorate in Syria, and the Nizip and Karkam districts of Gaziantep Province in Turkey. Borders and description The average elevation of the plain is around 400 m. It gradually slopes up from east to west. The plain can be divded into a northern and southern parts. The northern part extends from Nizip to Manbij . This part is surrounded by the Aintab plateau from north and west. It is traversed from west to east by the Nizip, Merzimen Bozatl , and Sajur rivers. It is inhabited by a Turkmen people Turkmen density in addition to Arab s and other ethnic minorities. The Turkmen call this plain Barak plain after the name of a Turkmen tribe. It has elevations of cca. 200 m, and is composed of Jijia Plain , west of the river Prut, Middle Prut Valley , or Middle Prut Plain, east of the river Prut, creeks tributary to the Prut, 2,930  km sup 2 sup B l i Steppe , or R ut Plain, east of the river Prut, creeks tributary to the Dniester, 1,920  km sup 2 sup In Moldova, B l i steppe, 1,920  km sup 2 sup , and Middle Prut Valley , 2,930  km sup 2 sup are sometimes together referred to as Moldavian Plain, however one should be warned that in Romania the term Moldavian Plain is used as a synonym for the Jijia Plain . Before 1940 the term used to mean Jijia Plain plus Middle Prut Valley, plus B l i steppe, because the three regions have an identical relief and natural vegetation. To make the things even more complicated, in Moldova sometimes B l i steppe and Middle Prut Valley are lumped together into one term, B l i steppe. Moldavian Plain is surrounded from all sides by hills Suceava Plateau to the west, NW, and SW, Niester Hills to the north and east, Ciuluc Solone Hills and Corne ti Hills to the south and south est.
