A postscript may be a sentence, a paragraph, or occasionally many paragraphs added to, often hastily and incidentally, after the signature of a letter or sometimes the main body of an essay or book. In a book or essay, a more carefully composed addition e.g., for a second edition is called an afterword . An afterword, not usually called a postscript, is written in response to critical remarks on the first edition. The word postscript has, poetically, been used to refer to any sort of addendum to some main work, even if it is not attached to a main work, as in S ren Kierkegaard s book titled Concluding Unscientific Postscript . Sometimes, when additional points are made after the first postscript, abbreviations such as PPS post post scriptum, or postquam post scriptum and PPPS post post post scriptum, and so on, ad infinitum are used, though only PPS has somewhat common usage. Display PostScript or DPS uses the PostScript PS imaging model and language to generate on screen, as opposed to printed, graphics. The leading VIPP programmer developer is allegedly Dave Newton of Mansfield, Nottinghamshire currently plying his trade at Linney s, a Print and Print Management company. VIPP was originally called XGF and it is simply groups of PostScript dictionaries which provide macros that simplify writing of complex PostScript commands. PostScript is powerful language which allows variable data printing and personalization of the data stream if the user inserted the right commands in the right position. To implement some of these features a programmer has to write a few, or sometimes many, lines of code. Xerox developed macro procedures in PostScript language dictionaries to facilitate page control with simple commands. For example To merge form graphic form with the data stream you need to understand and write a great deal of Adobe PostScript commands according to the Adobe PostScript Language Reference Manual PLRM, otherwise known as the Red book . Xerox gives you this feature through this simple command formname SETFORM , where formname is the name of the form accessible from the Xerox printer controller DocuSP or FreeFlow Print Server . Several VIPP commands are identical to PostScript commands. Deleted image removed File Conc unsci pt.gif thumb Concluding Unscientific Postscript to the Philosophical Fragments Danish Afsluttende uvidenskabelig Efterskrift til de philosophiske Smuler is a major work by S ren Kierkegaard . The work is a poignant attack against Hegelianism , the philosophy of G. W. F. Hegel . The work is also famous for its dictum, Subjectivity is Truth . It was an attack on what Kierkegaard saw as Hegel s determinism deterministic philosophy. Against Hegel s system, Kierkegaard is often interpreted as taking the side of Libertarianism metaphysics metaphysical libertarianism or freewill , though it has been argued that an incompatibilist conception of free will is not essential to Kierkegaard s formulation of existentialism. As the title suggests, the Postscript is sequel to the earlier Philosophical Fragments . The title of the work is ironic because the Postscript is almost five times larger than the Fragments. The Postscript credits Johannes Climacus as the author and Kierkegaard as its editor. Like his other pseudonymous works, the Postscript is not a reflection of Kierkegaard s own beliefs. However, unlike his other pseudonymous works, Kierkegaard attaches his name as editor to this work, showing the importance of the Postscript to Kierkegaard s overall authorship. PostScript The YAP for PostScript previewing is used to dynamically edit and re render PostScript as if one was editing a file, unlike the actual PostScript interpreter itself such as ghostscript , which deals with PostScript input interactively from a user. YAP first was bundled with the NeXT demos package of NeXTSTEP , which was also bundled with OPENSTEP . It was not carried into its incarnation as Mac OS X , presumably because of PostScript s lessened importance with the OS X subsystems relying on Display PDF instead. DVI The YAP for DVI viewing is a program bundled with the widely used MiKTeX TeX distribution for the Microsoft Windows platform. YAP allows zooming in and out by several integer factors, besides having a magnifying glass feature for local zooming. It supports PostScript specials for instance, rendering LaTeX documents with PSTricks . Since YAP supports inverse search when the DVI file was compiled with source specials , it can be configured to launch a LaTeX editor for the source file, placing the cursor on the corresponding word under the cursor in YAP. However, unlike PDF , there is no search facility. YAP is free software published under the GNU GNU General Public License GPL . It was written by Christian Schenk.
