Originally intended to be the site of an office tower designed by Mies van der Rohe in the manner of the Seagram Building NYC, that scheme was aborted following one of the great architectural and planning show downs of the 1970s. The present building was completed in 1997, five years after Stirling s death. It is a postmodern building, with use of bold, but perhaps unsubtle, forms and colours in a compact assembly. It is clad in pink and yellow limestone, fixed in stripes and blocks of colour whilst the interior atrium at the centre of the wedge shaped site displays some of Stirling s characteristic acidulous colour play. Like many of the best postmodern buildings the imagery is rich in references. It is the official standard of perfection from which all poultry in Australia is supposed to be judged when exhibited at Poultry Show s. Published by the Victorian Poultry Association, the first edition of the Australian Poultry Standard was published in 1998 and is at the current time, the only edition. Compiled by consulting all major Federated state state poultry clubs and all Australian poultry breed clubs over the course of several decades, the standard was finally published in 1998, after almost 30 years of delay. The second edition of the standard is due to be published in December 2011. As of the beginning of 2010, the 1st Edition of the Australian Poultry Standard has been out of print. Classification of breeds The Australian Poultry Standard classifies all chicken breeds as either Hard Feather or Soft Feather, and then further divides them in to the Bantam poultry bantam or standard size. Breeds which have less under fluff and feathers which are closer to the body fall under hard feather, such as the Old English Game and Asil . Breeds with more under fluff and softer feathers, such as the Silkie , Australorp and Leghorn chicken Leghorn , are classed as soft feather. Ducks are divided in to two classes, bantam or standard size, and all domestic turkey turkey s, geese and guinea fowl have only one class each. The British Poultry Standard is the oldest animal fancy poultry fancy breed standard in the world. First published by the original Poultry Club of Great Britain, a club which existed for only three years, in 1865, the standard was the first of its kind. The compilation of the standard was then taken over by the 2nd and current Poultry Club of Great Britain . At the current time the number of editions of the standard that have been published is unknown, as each successive publisher that has been used by the Poultry Club of Great Britain has started again with a 1st Edition.
