A Presentation Pack is a folder, produced for philatelist s and stamp collector s, that contains a full set of a new postage stamp stamp issue. Format A Presentation Pack normally consists of a cardboard folder with notes about the stamps, a holder for the stamps and a clear sleeve on the outside. They are normally sold at a small margin above the face value of the stamps. History Great Britain was one of the first countries to produce presentation packs, the first one being for the 1964 Shakespeare stamps of that year. Early packs were not produced in large numbers and are much sought after by collectors. The pack for the Opening of the Forth Road Bridge stamps has a value of 400 according to the 2010 Stanley Gibbons Great Britain Concise Stamp Catalogue . The early packs issued in the 1960s have tight cellophane sleeves that shrink leading to buckling of the insert cards. Packs with German, Japanese or Welsh text are also collectable. Many countries around the world now issue Presentation Packs in similar formats as they are a convenient way to sell and display a whole stamp issue. Variants A pack containing a whole year s stamps is called a Yearpack . Bound into book form it is called a Yearbook . Most packs are produced by the philatelic departments of national post offices, however, there is nothing to stop anyone else producing a pack by taking a set of stamps and designing their own holder. A number of private packs have been created in Britain to promote products, events, or simply as souvenirs including British Caledonian Airways for the Queen s Silver Jubilee in 1977 ref http www.packsandcards.com products showitem.asp?ID 1369&start 1 Packs and Cards British Caledonian Airways, Queen s Silver Jubilee 1977. ref and Scottish Wildlife Trust for the 1981 British Butterflies stamps. ref http www.packsandcards.com products showitem.asp?ID 1360&start 1 Packs and Cards Scottish Wildlife Trust, British Butterflies 1981. ref References references Category Stamp collecting ... more details
Television presentation refers to the way in which television station s present themselves between programs. It has become increasingly important in the recent multichannel television environment for television stations to create an attractive and distinct on air appearance, through the various elements that form the television presentation umbrella. These include television ident idents , the short clips that are often shown before a program on many stations. They often consist of an animated form of the station s logo , and many have a continuity announcer who speaks over the clip with information about programs on the station. Some stations, such as BBC One in the United Kingdom UK have used a live action ident since 1997. This approach however is less common. Other elements include Digital On screen Graphics DOGs and End Credit Promotions ECPs . Computerised graphics have been popular since BBC Two introduced the world s first computer generated television identification in the summer of 1979. The monoid is then presented as the quotient monoid quotient of the free monoid by these relations. This is an analogue of a group presentation in group theory . As a mathematical structure, a monoid presentation is identical to a string rewriting system also known as semi Thue system . Every monoid may be presented by a semi Thue system possibly over an infinite alphabet . ref Book and Otto, Theorem 7.1.7, p. 149 ref Construction The relations are given as a finite binary relation R on sup sup . To form the quotient monoid, these relations are extended to monoid congruence s as follows. First one takes the symmetric closure R R sup &minus 1 sup of R . This is then extended to a symmetric relation E sup sup sup sup by defining x sub E sub y if and only if x sut and y svt for some strings u , v , s , t sup sup with u , v R R sup &minus 1 sup . Unreferenced date October 2009 Technical date October 2009 Antigen presentation is a process in the body s immune system by which macrophages , dendritic cells and other cell types capture antigen s and then enable their recognition by T cells . The basis of adaptive immunity lies in the capacity of immune cells to distinguish between the body s own cells and infectious pathogens. Image Antigens presentation.svg thumb 350px In the upper pathway foreign protein or antigen 1 is taken up by an antigen presenting cell 2 . The antigen is processed and displayed on a MHC II molecule 3 , which interacts with a T helper cell 4 . In the lower pathway whole foreign proteins are bound by membrane antibodies 5 and presented to B lymphocytes 6 , which process 7 and present antigen on MHC II 8 to a previously activated T helper cell 10 , spurring the production of antigen specific antibodies 9 . The host s cells express self antigens that identify them as such. These antigens are different from those in bacteria non self antigens or in virally infected host cells missing self . The ability of the adaptive immune system to survey for infection requires specialized pathways of enabling recognition of pathogen derived antigens by T cells. Antigen recognition Unlike B cells , T cells fail to recognize antigens in the absence of antigen presentation, with the important exception of the superantigen s. Origin The flag which is to be presented is draped over the casket of the soldier or sailor being laid to rest, a practice dating back to the Napoleonic Wars when the dead were carried off the battlefield in flags. It is not exactly certain when the practice of presenting the flag came about but is believed to have regularly begun in the early 20th century. ref name arlington cite web last Military District of Washington title Military Funeral Customs publisher Arlington National Cemetery date 2003 05 24 url http www.arlingtoncemetery.net customs.htm accessdate 2007 08 09 ref The rite Before the casket is buried, the pall bearers perform the ritualistic folding of the flag, a solemn procedure which involves precise and crisp movements to fold the flag into the standard triangular fold for safe keeping. Once the fold is complete, the flag bearer hands the flag usually to the military chaplain . Not wavering from ritual, the chaplain walks to the service member s next of kin, and presents the folded flag to this person, usually accompanying the action with words of condolence. It depicts a gondolier returning the ring of Saint Mark to the Doge Bartolomeo Gradenigo . The legend states that one night, while the gondolier was sleeping in his gondola, waiting for custom along the canal of S. Giorgio Maggiore, three mysterious individuals jumped into his boat and bade him to take them to the Lido di Venezia . One of the three persons appeared to have the beard of an Apostle Christian apostle and the figure of a high dignitary of the Roman Catholic Church Church . The two others, by a certain sound as of armour rubbing beneath their mantles, revealed themselves as men at arms. The gondolier turned his prow towards the Lido and began to row but the lagoon, so tranquil at their departure, began to chop and swell strangely. The waves gleamed with sinister lights monstrous apparitions were outlined menacingly around the barque, to the great terror of the gondolier.
