The Fire By Night Organizing Committee was a short lived revolutionary leftism leftist organization in the United States . Fire by Night was formed by about half of the members of the New York City branch and all the members of the San Francisco branch of the Love and Rage Love and Rage Revolutionary Anarchist Federation after its dissolution in 1998. In Love & Rage s aftermath, Fire by Night grouped together some members of Love & Rage who were moving away from anarchism and becoming increasingly influenced by Marxism , along with some who still considered themselves anarchists but were open to working in the same organization with non anarchists. At its formation, Fire by Night was conceived as likely to be a transitional organization. Fire by Night was committed to doing three things 1 organizing together in a concentrated and strategic way, 2 writing a thorough summation of lessons from the experience of Love & Rage, and 3 carrying out a year long process of political study which would result in writing a political statement that would clarify the organization s ideological orientation and their view on revolutionary strategy in the United States. A growing self organizing map GSOM is a growing variant of the popular self organizing map SOM . The GSOM was developed to address the issue of identifying a suitable map size in the Self Organizing Map SOM . It starts with a minimal number of nodes usually 4 and grows new nodes on the boundary based on a heuristic. By using the value called Spread Factor SF , the data analyst has the ability to control the growth of the GSOM. All the starting nodes of the GSOM are boundary nodes, i.e. each node has the freedom to grow in its own direction at the beginning. Fig. 1 New Nodes are grown from the boundary nodes. The Southern Student Organizing Committee SSOC was a student activist group in the southern United States during the 1960s, which focused on many political and social issues, including African American civil rights , opposition to the Vietnam War , worker s rights, and feminism. It was intended in part to be Students for a Democratic Society 1960 organization SDS for Southerners and Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee SNCC for white students at a time when it was Mississippi civil rights workers murders dangerous for SDS to attempt to organize in the Deep South, and when SNCC was starting to discuss expelling white volunteers. It was felt that students at the traditionally white and black colleges in the South could be more effectively organized separately than in an integrated student civil rights organization however this was controversial and initially opposed by advisors like Anne Braden.
