  1. Talaria projector

Talaria was the brand name of a large venue video projector from General Electric . Image GE Taleria.png thumb 200px Early model GE Talaria light valve video projector. Light from a Xenon arc lamp was modulated by a light valve consisting of a rotating glass disc that was continuously re coated with a viscous oil. An electron beam similar to the one in a cathode ray tube traced a raster graphics raster on the surface of the coated glass, deforming the surface of the oil. Where the oil was undisturbed, the light would be reflected into a light trap. The raster traced into the oil formed a diffraction grating . The basic unit was monochrome PJ7000 line . Color display is accomplished in one of two ways The single lens color projector PJ5000 line use dichroic filters to separate the white light of the xenon bulb in two channels, Green and Magenta. RGB color separation and processing is obtained using vertical Wobbulator wobbulation of the electron beam on the oil film to modulate the green channel and sawtooth modulation is added to the horizontal sweep to separate and modulate Red and Blue channels. The optical system used in the Talaria line is a Schlieren optic like an Eidophor , but the color extraction is much more complex. 1. Carousel slide projector

refimprove date May 2010 File Carousel slide projector 0a.jpg thumb right A carousel slide projector. A carousel slide projector is a common form of slide projector , used to project reversal film slide photographs and to create slideshow s. The first carousel slide projector was invented by Louis Misuraca, who immigrated to the United States from Naples, Italy when he was a child. Louis was paid a one time fee for his invention by the Eastman Kodak Eastman Kodak Company and did not earn royalties. He used the money to take his family on a trip to Italy. Physical form A separate, circular tray holds several slides usually 80 or 140 35mm slides, and is filled with each slide placed in upside down and backwards, so that the image is presented with the correct orientation. The tray has a metal plate on the bottom with an opening about 5  cm wide barely long enough to pass a single slide to the projection gate below it. The projector body contains a motor which rotates the plastic main body of the tray containing the slides while the metal plate is fixed with the opening over the projection gate. 1. Laser video projector

Merge Laser video display date July 2010 A laser video projector is a video projector that modulates a laser beam in order to project a Raster scan raster based image. The systems work either by scanning the entire picture a dot at a time and modulating the laser directly at high frequency, much like the electron beams in a cathode ray tube , or by optically spreading and then modulating the laser and scanning a line at a time, the line itself being modulated in much the same way as with Digital Light Processing DLP . When well implemented this technology produces the broadest Gamut color gamut available in practical display equipment today, because lasers produce truly monochromatic primaries. Assembly Laser signal modulation The video Signalling telecommunication signal is introduced to the laser beam by an acousto optic modulator AOM that uses a photorefractive effect photorefractive crystal to separate the beam at distinct diffraction angles. The beam must enter the crystal at the specific Bragg diffraction Bragg angle of that AOM crystal. Therefore it is necessary to use a large slide format to protect the slide material from overheating during the projection process even when the light is filtered to only visible light and the slide is cooled with strong slide cooling fans . Slide formats of 18 18  cm 7.1 7.1 or 24 24  cm 9.4 9.4 . On the other hand this formats are so large that it is possible to project slides painted with heat resistant translucent colours as a special kind of art projection art . The light output of the projector is so enormous that it is possible to cover whole buildings with an artistic cover of light. History The first large format slide projectors were built in the middle of the 20th century as background projectors for theaters and opera houses. The artists Professor Schneider Siemmsen ref http www.fanfaire.com schneider siemssen index.html ref , Professor Svoboda and Herbert von Karajan used the large format slide projectors as stage projectors in their artwork. 1. Projector augmented wave method

The projector augmented wave method PAW is a technique used in Ab initio quantum chemistry methods ab initio electronic structure calculations. It is a generalization of the pseudopotential and linear augmented plane wave methods, and allows for density functional theory calculations to be performed with greater computational efficiency. ref cite journal first P.E. last Bl chl year 1994 title Projector augmented wave method journal Physical Review B volume 50 issue 24 pages 17953 17978 doi 10.1103 PhysRevB.50.17953 ref Valence wavefunctions tend to have rapid oscillations near ion cores due to the requirement that they be orthogonal to core states this situation is problematic because it requires many Fourier components or in the case of grid based methods, a very fine mesh to describe the wavefunctions accurately. The PAW approach addresses this issue by transforming these rapidly oscillating wavefunctions into smooth wavefunctions which are more computationally convenient. 1. Slide cube projector

Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 Orphan date December 2009 A slide cube projector is a type of slide projector that was created by Bell & Howell and was sold up through the 1980s. The system gets its name from the plastic cubes that slides are stored in. The cubes are about 5.5  cm in each dimension a bit larger than a slide , and hold 36 44 slides depending on the mount thickness. Unlike the trays used in Carousel slide projector carousel projectors , the slides in a cube are not separated from each other they are simply stacked one on top of the other. The slide advance mechanism depends on a slide dropping from the loaded cube into a slide size hole in a circular plate. The plate is thinner than a slide and so should grab only a single slide and move it forward, first to a preview section, then to the projection position, then to a holding position from which it can be returned to allow for a single slide s worth of backup, and then finally to a position in which it drops into a stack that can be pushed back up into the cube after projection is completed. Slide cube projectors were popular at one time because the cubes were cheaper than carousels and they allow for much higher storage density a book or drawer of 16 forty slide cubes 640 slides fits in the space of a single carousel that holds at most 140 slides. The stack storage and preview feature also makes for much easier editing of slideshow slide shows slides can be added or removed from the show without having to shift all of the remaining slides up or down in their slots one at a time. Carousel projectors can use stack loaders to view a stack of slides, but they don t lend themselves to this type of operation and there is no associated storage system. However, the slide cube projection system ultimately faded out because of its serious drawbacks, including the inability to back up more than ... and elsewhere. Orphan date February 2009 A Projection panel is a device that, although no longer in production, was used as a Video projector data projector is today. It works with an overhead projector OHP . The panel consists of a translucent LCD, and a fan to keep it cool. The projection panel sits on the bed of the OHP, and acts like a piece of OHT transparency. The panels have a Video Graphics Array VGA input, and sometimes Composite video Composite RCA and S Video . Later models have remotes, with functions such as Freeze which lets you freeze the image, useful for when you want to leave something on the screen whilst you do other things. Earlier models only had 640x480 resolution, while newer ones had up to Super Video Graphics Array SVGA resolution. Proxima, one maker of the panels, included a magic wand and sensor, which worked with the sensor detecting where you put the wand, to create and interactive effect, the equivalent of today s Smart boards. Although they are not produced anymore, used panels can be purchased for a fraction of the price of a data projector. The panels are quite dim, as they do not let a great deal of light through, so brightness can be a problem, even with a powerful OHP.
