It is located in the south eastern Slovakia, in the Trebi ov District Trebi ov and Michalovce District Michalovce districts. Geography, geology and ecology The park is located around the Slovak part of Latorica river and around lower part of Ondava and Laborec rivers. The landscape area consists of the system of riverbeds and arms, surrounded by alluvial forest and wetlands. The most noticeable phenomenon of the PLA is the rare water and swamp biocenose , unique in Slovakia. Due to the location and character of this PLA, the area is used by waterfowl, not only for nesting, but also, in the case of migratory birds, for short rests. A part of river s watershed Ramsar site No. 606 , 44.05 km was added to the Ramsar convention Ramsar list of wetlands of international importance since 1993.   1. Mahazat as-Sayd Protected Area

    The Mahazat as Sayd Protected Area is a 220,000 ha large protected area in central Saudi Arabia . The area is totally fenced and protection from livestock grazing has allowed a spectacular recovery of native vegetation. The reserve is now dominated by grasslands, which are a reminder of what most of the Arabian peninsula may have looked once. Mahazat as Sayd is one of the few places where the Arabian oryx has been reintroduced to. In addition the Gazella subgutturosa reem gazelle and ostrich red necked ostrich have been reintroduced in the reserve. The area was once also home to wolves and two more species of gazelles, the Gazella gazella idmi and dorcas gazelle . It is likely that striped hyenas and cheetahs once also inhabited the area.
