  1. Cell-free protein synthesis

Cell free protein synthesis also called in vitro protein synthesis , is the production of protein without the use of living cells. History The first elucidation of a codon was done by Marshall Nirenberg and Heinrich J. Matthaei in 1961 at the National Institutes of Health. They used a cell free system to translate a poly uracil RNA sequence or UUUUU... in biochemical terms and discovered that the polypeptide they had synthesized consisted of only the amino acid phenylalanine. They thereby deduced from this poly phenylalanine that the codon UUU specified the amino acid phenylalanine ref neur ref . Extending this work, Nirenberg and his coworkers were able to determine the nucleotide makeup of each codon Cell free systems in common use. 1. Convergent synthesis

In chemistry a convergent synthesis is a strategy that aims to improve the efficiency of multi step chemical synthesis , most often in organic synthesis . In linear synthesis the overall chemical yield yield quickly drops with each reaction step A B C D Suppose the yield is 50 for each reaction, the overall yield of D is only 12.5 from A. In a convergent synthesis A B 50 C D 50 B D E 25 the overall yield of E 25 looks much better. Convergent synthesis is applied in the synthesis of complex molecules see total synthesis and involve fragment coupling and independent synthesis . Examples Convergent synthesis is encountered in dendrimer synthesis ref Convergent Synthesis of Internally Branched PAMAM Dendrimers Michael Pittelkow, Jrn B. Christensen Org. Lett., 7 7 , 1295 1298, 2005 ref where branches with the number of generations preset are connected to the central core Proteins of up to 300 amino acid s are produced by a convergent approach using chemical ligation . Vector Synthesis is a type of Synthesizer audio synthesis introduced by Sequential Circuits in the Prophet VS synthesizer during 1986. Image VectorSynthesisDiagram.svg right thumb Controlling the mix of four sound waves by defining a point on a vector plane using a joystick Vector synthesis provides movement in a sound by providing dynamic cross fading between usually four sound sources. 1. Divergent synthesis

In chemistry a divergent synthesis is a strategy with the aim to improve the efficiency of chemical synthesis . It is often an alternative to convergent synthesis or linear synthesis. In one strategy divergent synthesis aims to generate a library biology library of chemical compound s by first reacting a molecule with a set of reactants. The next generation of compounds is generated by further reactions with each compound in generation 1. This methodology quickly diverges to large numbers of new compounds A generates A1, A2, A3, A4, A5 in generation 1 A1 generates A11, A12, A13 in generation 2 and so on. An entire library of new chemical compounds for instance carbohydrate sugar s can be screened for desirable properties. In another strategy divergent synthesis starts from a molecule as a central core from which successive generations of building blocks are added. A good example is the divergent synthesis of dendrimer s for example where in each generation new monomer reacts to the growing surface of the sphere. Principle Wavetable synthesis is fundamentally based on periodic ... to other synthesis methods employing single cycle waveforms is twofold 1 multiple single cycle ... synthesis may also contain recognizable artifacts, especially aliasing , quantization error quantization ... synthesis techniques Wavetable synthesis can be an efficient realization of additive synthesis in the case where all overtones are harmonic. However unlike additive synthesis where each harmonic is generated and added together during the actual synthesis, in wavetable synthesis, the waveform is precomputed from the harmonics and stored as wavetables that are later used during synthesis. Sample based synthesis uses multiple cycle waveforms and intricate algorithms for pitch shifting. LA synthesis ... cycle loops for the sustain release portion of the sound. Granular synthesis Granular Synthesis ... has also become known as wavetable oscillator, which is a degenerate case of wavetable synthesis described above. In wavetable synthesis multiple such single cycle wavetable oscillators are in use, originally ... 1987 . Confusion with sample based synthesis Starting around 1993, with the introduction of Creative ... creation. However, these sound cards did not employ any form of wavetable synthesis, but rather a sampler musical instrument sampler and subtractive synthesis system based on technology from the E mu Emulator family. Wavetable In the context of wavetable synthesis a wavetable is a collection of single ... of the synthesis engine. The creation of new wavetables was therefore a difficult process unless ...   more details
