Churchunion is the name given to a merger of two or more ChristianChristian denomination denominations . Such unions may occur in one of two ways. United churches main United and uniting churches Some churches have formed as a result of a merger of churches of different denominations. One of the first of these occurred in 1817, when Lutheran and Reformed churches in Prussia merged in what is known as the PrussianUnionEvangelicalChristianChurchPrussianUnion . The nineteenth century saw a number of unions between different churches of the same tradition. For example, the United Secession Church in Scotland was formed in 1820 by a union of various churches which had seceded from the established Church of Scotland . All these were Presbyterian in both doctrine and practice. In the twentieth century many churches merged as a result of the Ecumenical movement . One of the earliest such unions was in 1925, and formed the United Church of Canada . Federation Some churches may join together by way of federation . Morison was suspended by the presbytery in 1841 and thereupon withdrew from the United Secession Church. His father, who was minister at Bathgate, and two other ministers, were deposed not long afterwards for similar opinions. The four met at Kilmarnock on May 16, 1843 two days before the Disruption of the Free Church , and, on the basis of certain doctrinal principles, formed themselves into an association under the name of the EvangelicalUnion, for the purpose of countenancing, counselling and otherwise aiding one another, and also for the purpose of training up spiritual and devoted young men to carry forward the work and pleasure of the Lord. More footnotes date January 2009 The term Prussian virtues refers to an unfixed canon of several Lutheran virtue s dating from the Enlightenment . Prussian virtues and the Prussian value system have influenced aspects of wider Culture of Germany German culture . Historical Development These virtues derive from King Frederick William I of Prussia Friedrich Wilhelm I of Prussia , the soldier king and frugal bourgeois reformer of Prussian administration, and from his son, King Friedrich II. The father saw himself as moral role model, while the son saw himself as an exemplar of reason for the religiously, ethnically, and linguistically diverse Prussian State. The Prussian Era of Reform, from the military loss to Napoleon Bonaparte at the Battles of Jena and Auerstedt , until the Congress of Vienna in 1815, was also an important influence. These included reform of community boundaries, the army, schools, universities, and taxes enfranchisement of Jews. Despite a meager economic basis which caused Prussia to be known as the dustbowl of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation , and despite the great devastation and human loss of the Thirty Years War , Prussian virtues gave Prussia a modern legal order and administration, an officer corps loyal to the crown, and a reasoned patriotism, which ...
