He was, however, defeated and dislodged from his position by the Seleucid Empire Syrian king. Orphan date February 2009 The Dryton and Apollonia archive consists of fragments of 40 papyri written in both Koine Greek and Demotic Egyptian from 150 99 BCE although some of the events referenced took place as far back as 176 or 175 BCE. The archive documents wills, financial transactions, and divorces of the Dryton household who lived in the Thebaid specifically the cities of Ptolemais and Pathyris see also Ptolemaic Egypt . Dryton was a cavalry officer in Ptolemais, a Greek city in Upper Egypt. It shows he was married to Sarapias by whom he had a son, Esthladas. They divorced and Dryton took his son with him in his transfer to Pathyris around 152 BCE. It was here he met his second wife Apollonia, also known by her Egyptian name of Senmonthis, who most likely was a teen, to his almost fifty years of age. Greeks in Ptolemaic Egypt only associated with other Greeks and did not interact with the natives however, Dryton appears to have developed a more Egyptian lifestyle towards the end of his life with his marriage to Apollonia. Esthladas seems to have followed in his father s footsteps and earned a living as a professional soldier and through private land ownership. He appears to have adapted to a more Egyptian way of life and was also both fluent and literate in the Egyptian language of Demotic and Greek as many of the later documents pertain to him specifically. Gregory II of Cyprus lang el , Lapithos , Cyprus 1241&ndash 1290 was Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople between 1283 1289. His name was originally George. His parents were middle class but of noble origin. He moved to Nicosia as a teenager seeking further education. Not satisfied by the level of education provided by local teachers in Greek language Greek , he became a student at a Latin school available then as Cyprus was a Crusader states crusader Kingdom of Cyprus Kingdom . He had difficulty learning Latin and thus got only a superficial knowledge of grammar and Aristotle s Logic . Still determined to get a decent education, he got on a ship to Ptolemais , Palestine , where he arrived after three days. From there he travelled to Anaea in Asia Minor and finally made it to Ephesos . He had heard a lot about the scholar Nicephorus Blemmydes but was disappointed by him and moved to Nicaean Empire Nicaea were he studied with George Acropolites . With the recapture of Constantinople by Nicaean forces in 1261, he moved there. Later he became a teacher, his students including Nikephoros Choumnos . He became patriarch in 1283.The orthodox and the catholic churches had proclaimed their union in 1274 in the Second Council of Lyons , motivated more by the emperor s politics than by theological arguments. Gregory, contrary to his predecessor refused to accept the filioque clause added to the Nicene creed by the Roman Catholics. Gregory spoke of an eternal manifestation of the Spirit by the Son. Gregory s formula has been considered an Orthodox answer to the filioque, though it does not have the status of official Orthodox doctrine. Gregory s perception of Trinity was endorsed by the council of Blachernae in 1285. He wrote collections of proverbs and his autobiography. He died in 1289. In 219 BC we find him besieging Ptolemais , which was held by the traitor Theodotus of Aetolia Theodotus , who had revolted from Ptolemy to Antiochus III the Great 223 BC 223 &ndash 187 BC . Nicolaus, however, abandoned the siege on the approach of the Seleucid Empire Seleucid king. In the same year he did much towards baffling the attempt of Antiochus on Dora in Phoenicia , by sending constant succours to the besieged. In 218 BC he was invested by Ptolemy with the supreme command in Coele Syria , an appointment fully warranted, according to Polybius , by his military experience and bravery. He was, however, dislodged by Antiochus and his generals from a strong position which he had taken up between the range of Mount Lebanon and the sea near the town of Porphyreon , and was obliged to seek safety in a precipitate flight towards Sidon . Out of date article date August 2011 Kozani Amyntaio line The Kozani Amyntaio railway line is a RailGauge sg standard gauge convert 59.4 km 1 sing on long rail transport railway line of Hellenic Railways Organisation OSE connecting Kozani and Amyntaio in Greece . Construction of the line for the former Hellenic State Railways started in January 1951 and was completed in 1954. It is a branch line branch of the Thessaloniki Bitola railway , which began operations in 1894. The line serves the town of Ptolemaida , and connects to the lignite fired power plants of Public Power Corporation at Komanos freight station. The terminal station is in the southern part of the city of Kozani. Industrial branch lines connect to the Public Power Corporation of Greece PPC power plants of Ptolemais and Agios Dimitrios, normally used by freight trains carrying light fuel oil. Another branch line to the former fertilizer plant of AEVAL is disused. The line is also used by freight trains carrying sugar beats to Platy. The Kozani Amyntaio line was under renovation between 2003 2007.
