Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 A publicdatanetwork is a telecommunications networknetwork established and operated by a telecommunications administration, or a recognized private operating agency, for the specific purpose of providing data transmission services for the public. In communications, a PDN is a circuit or packet switched network that is available to the public and that can transmit data in digital form. A PDN provider is a company that provides access to a PDN and that provides any of X.25, frame relay, or cell relay ATM services. Access to a PDN generally includes a guaranteed bandwidth, known as the committed information rate CIR . Costs for the access depend on the guaranteed rate. PDN providers differ in how they charge for temporary increases in required bandwidth known as surges . Some use the amount of overrun others use the surge duration. Unreferenced date December 2009 Orphan date December 2009 A public switched datanetwork PSDN is a publicly available packet switched network , distinct from the PSTN . Originally this term referred only to Packet Switch Stream PSS , an X.25 based packet switched network, mostly used to provide leased line connections between local area network s and the Internet using permanent virtual circuit s PVCs . Today, the term may refer not only to Frame Relay and Asynchronous Transfer Mode ATM , both providing PVCs, but also to Internet Protocol IP , GPRS , and other packet switching techniques. Whilst there are several technologies that are superficially similar to the PSDN, such as Integrated Services Digital Network ISDN and the Digital Subscriber Line DSL technologies, they are not examples of it. ISDN utilizes the PSTN circuit switched network, and DSL uses point to point circuit switching communications overlaid on the PSTN local loop copper wires , usually utilized for access to a packet switched broadband IP network. In 1983, plans for a new generation of the Automatic Digital Network Autodin II were canceled. Instead, a separate network to connect military installations called MILNET was split off the ARPANET. The ARPANET would be used as an Internet backbone for researchers, but be slowly phased out. Both networks carried unclassified information, and were connected at a small number of points which would allow total separation in the event of an emergency. While some data centers are owned and operated by a Telecommunications service provider telecommunications or Internet service provider , network neutral data centers are operated by a third party who has little or no part in providing Internet service to the end user . This encourages competition and diversity as a Server computing server in a colocation centre can have one provider, multiple providers or only connect back to the headquarters of the company who owns the server. Technical date September 2010 Aircraft DataNetwork ADN is a concept introduced by the Airlines Electronics Engineering Committee AEEC in the ARINC 664 Specification. The specification proposes data networking standards recommended for use in commercial aircraft installations. The standards provide a means to adapt Commercial off the shelf COTS networking standards to an aircraft environment. It refers to devices such as bridges, switches, routers and hubs and their use in an aircraft environment. This equipment, when installed in a network topology, can provide effective data transfer and overall avionics performance. The ARINC 664 specification refers extensively to the set of data networking standards developed by the Internet community and IEEE. The specification also applies the concepts of Open Systems Interconnection OSI standards. Formerly known as Performance Based Data Management Initiative PBDMI , EDEN attempts to gather statistics from each state such as school populations within subgroups race, gender, etc. , graduation rates and school spending. EDEN data gathering is complicated by the fact that no data sent to federal agencies may contain private data about an individual student that would violate the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act FERPA guidelines. So a state agency can not just send a list of students and their test scores. A reporting agency can only send a list of subgroups and counts if the counts are above a small number such as five. Public Insight Journalism is a pioneering approach to journalism created by American Public Media . It recognizes that broadcast media today operate in a changed media environment, and need to expand the resources available to journalists when deciding what is news and reporting on that news, as well as be responsive to audience desires to participate. Through a collection of tools, many of them web based, MPR News solicits knowledge and direct experience from people in its Public Insight Network . The basic goal is to do better journalism through increased public input. Public Insight Journalism contributes to the national shows Marketplace radio program and Weekend America , and is being rolled out on a limited basis to other public radio stations in the U.S. The MPR radio show In the Loop is directly associated with PIJ the acronym by which is sometimes known . In late 2006, Public Insight Journalism became the core of a new MPR initiative called the Center for Innovation in Journalism. In 2003, CPRN and National Public Radio NPR joined in a collaborative marketing arrangement to further expand the network, but ceased national broadcast operations as of June 30, 2008. CPRN offered listeners the full spectrum of the classical repertoire from medieval times to the present complete symphonies and orchestral pieces, chamber works, opera selections, art songs, and choral works.
