Publius Rupilius , Roman Republic Roman statesman, consul in 132 BC. During the inquiry that followed the death of Tiberius Gracchus , conducted by himself and his colleague Popillius Laenas , he proceeded with the utmost severity against the supporters of Gracchus. In the same year he was despatched to Sicily , where he suppressed the revolt of the slaves under Eunus . During 131 BC he remained as proconsul of the island, and, with the assistance of ten commissioners appointed by the Roman Senate Senate , drew up regulations for the organization of Sicily as a province. These regulations were known by the title of leges Rupiliae , though they were not laws in the strict sense. Rupilius was subsequently brought to trial 123 BC and condemned for his treatment of the friends of Gracchus. The disgrace of his condemnation, added to disappointment at the failure of his brother to obtain the consulship in spite of the efforts of Scipio , caused his death shortly afterwards. Unreferenced date December 2009 Publius Mucius Scaevola c. 115 BC was a prominent Roman republic Roman politician and jurist. He was tribune in 141 BC, praetor in 136 BC, and consul in 133 BC. During his consulship, Publius Cornelius Scipio Nasica Serapio opposed Tiberius Gracchus running for a second consecutive tribune ship. Mucius said that he would allow Gracchus to run since that seemed to be the wishes of the people and he did not want to resort to violence to prevent him from running. Scipio though continued to protest and led the mob that killed Gracchus. Mucius did not condemn Scipio for these actions despite his earlier comments. He later became Pontifex Maximus in 131 BC after the death of his brother, PubliusLiciniusCrassusDivesMucianus . He is the last Pontifex Maximus to have published the Annales Maximi , the list of events of the year.
