  1. Pueblo Alto

Pueblo Alto High Village in Spanish language Spanish is a Chacoan civilization Chacoan Anasazi great house and archaeological site located in Chaco Canyon , northwestern New Mexico , United States . The complex, comprising 89 rooms in a single story layout, is located on a mesa top near the middle of Chaco Canyon 0.6  miles 1  km from Pueblo Bonito , it was begun between 1020 and 1050 AD. Its location made the community visible to most of the inhabitants of the San Juan Basin indeed, it was only 2.3  miles 3.7  km north of Tsin Kletsin , on the opposite side of the canyon. The community was the center of a bead and turquoise processing industry that influenced the development of all villages in the canyon chert tool production was also common. It shares its mesa with another great house, Nuevo Alto , both of which are now protected within the borders of Chaco Culture National Historical Park . Storerooms at Pueblo Alto opened to the outside rather than into the interior rooms and there was a huge midden of pottery. This and chert found in the midden came mostly from the Chuska area 70 km 43 mi to the west. Usage Research at the site suggests that only a handful of families, perhaps as few as five to twenty, lived in the complex this may imply that Pueblo Alto served a primarily non residential role. ref name Fagan 2005 10 11 harvnb Fagan 2005 pp 10 11 . ref Citations reflist 1 References Citation last1 Fagan given1 B year 2005 title Chaco Canyon Archaeologists Explore the Lives of an Ancient Society publisher Oxford University Press id ISBN 0 19 517043 1 . coord 36.0698 107.9574 type landmark region US NM display title Category Colorado Plateau Category Chaco Canyon Category Former populated places in New Mexico Category Pueblo great houses US archaeology stub NewMexico geo stub ...   more details

Infobox Game subject name Pueblo image link Image Pueblo 1.jpg 220px image caption designer Wolfgang Kramer Michael Kiesling publisher Ravensburger players 2 4 ages 10 and up setup time 2 minutes playing time 30 60 Minutes complexity Medium strategy Medium random chance None skills Strategy Strategic thought , Spatial Visualization Ability bggid 3228 bggxrefs footnotes Pueblo is an abstract strategy game which is a competition to optimally place blocks in a constrained space. The name, theme, and artwork for the game derive from the famous architecture of Taos Pueblo , but they are very lightly applied. Rules Equipment A rectangular playing board. Each player has an equal number of colored and neutral blocks, all of which have the same three dimensional shape. A Chieftain piece, and a scoring track. Setup Start with the board empty, the Chieftain in a corner, and with each player s neutral and colored blocks in pairs. Object Points are scored when the Chieftain can see any of your colored blocks. The goal of the game is to avoid scoring points. Play Play rotates among the players. On each move, place one new block on the board, move the Chieftain, and score the players whose colored blocks are visible to him. Strategy The really elementary strategy is to place your blocks behind the Chieftain, but that quickly becomes impossible, as the Chieftain walks all around the board and revisits same viewpoints. The ground level of the board fills up, forcing the players to build upward. Variants The advanced version of the game adds Sacred Sites that cannot be built upon.
