The pullman loaf , sometimes called the sandwich loaf or pan bread, is a type of bread made with white flour and baked in a long, narrow, lidded pan. The French term for this style of loaf is pain de mie . In the United States , many popular mass produced sliced breads are actually pullman loaves the slice of such breads are frequently square geometry square , with four flat uncurved crusts. The name Pullman was derived from its use in the compact kitchens of the Pullman car or coach Pullman railway cars . The Pullman Company is credited with inventing the lidded baking pans used to create the square loaves. The Liverpool Pullman was a British Pullman train UK Pullman train operated by the London Midland Region of British Railways . It ran daily from Stnlink Liverpool Lime Street to Stnlink London Euston and return, calling only at Stnlink Runcorn and Stnlink Watford Junction . It was introduced in 1966 upon the electrification of the West Coast Main Line . The Liverpool Pullman made the end to end London Liverpool journey in a record 2 hours 35 minutes. This was achieved partly by not calling at Stnlink Crewe , contrary to standard practice at the time, and partly by being of relatively low weight, having only eight coaches in total. Unlike many British Pullman services including its sister train of the same era, the Manchester Pullman , it was not all Pullman but also conveyed second class coaches. Its typical formation was four 2nd class coaches and four first class Pullman coaches, hauled by a British Rail Class 86 Class 86 electric locomotive. In 1968 the down northbound Liverpool Pullman was scheduled to cover the 163 miles from Watford Junction to Runcorn in 119 minutes, for an average speed of 82.3  mph, then the fastest ever start to stop regular timing in Britain. ref cite news title Outlook on the London Midland first G. It is centered on the junction of 109th Avenue and 56th Street between section land section s eight and nine of Lee Township at coord 42 29 01 N 86 05 29 W . It is approximately 10 miles northeast of South Haven, Michigan South Haven , about 13 miles southeast of Saugatuck, Michigan Saugatuck Douglas, Michigan Douglas , and 12 miles west southwest of Allegan, Michigan Allegan . The Upper and Lower Scott Lakes are nearby, which empty into the Scott Creek Drain, a tributary of the Middle Branch of the Black River Southwest Michigan Black River . Two brothers named Clement built a sawmill in 1870. A station on the Chicago and West Michigan Railway later part of the Pere Marquette Railway was established in 1871 and the area became known as Hooperstown , after an area landowner. A post office with that name operated from 1875 to 1880 and began again in 1891. The post office was renamed Pullman in 1901, apparently after George Pullman . The ZIP code for Pullman is 49450. Locally the area is known for its blueberry production. The residents tend to be fiscally Conservatism conservative , and Pullman has some of the lowest property taxes in all of Michigan. Many locals fear that in the next few decades the area may become another minor getaway for vacationing Chicagoans, which is pretty much what it already is, thus raising local prices and taxes. Many other locals feel that more Chicagoans would be a positive boost to the community, because Pullman which is also one of the poorest communities in Allegan County, could use the additional tax base to provide better roads, as well as better fire and police protection.
