  1. Manyu sukta

Religious text primary date December 2010 Manyu sukta is hymn 10.83 and 10.84 from the Rig veda . It contains 14 verses and is dedicated to Manyu deity Manyu . Manyu in Vedic sanskrit stands for temper, anger or passion. The original deity that this hymn addresses is believed to be Lord Narasimha . Identification of Manyu with Rudra Rudra means Lord Narayana, as Shiva s Bimba Roopa Paramatma is Lord Narasimha Satapatha Brahmana IX 1 1 6 says From Prajapati , when he had become enfeebled, the deities departed. Only one god, Manyu deity Manyu , did not leave him, but continued extended within him. He Prajapati wept. The tears which fell from him remained in that Manyu . He became Rudra with a hundred heads, a hundred eyes, and a hundred quivers. Then the other drops which fell from him in unnumbered thousands entered into these worlds. They were called Rudras because they sprang from him when he had wept. This Rudra with a thousand heads, eyes, and quivers, stood with his bow strung, and arrows on the string, causing terror, and demanding food. The gods were afraid of him. They said to Prajapati, We are afraid of this being, lest he destroy us. Prajapati said to them Collect for him food, and with it appease him. They collected for him this food, the satarudriya. ref Page 348,Original Sanskrit Texts VOL IV,By J.Muir,Trubner &co,LONDON,1873 ref Later, all gods ,including Prajapati sang Rudram Satarudriya hymns and appeased Rudra . 1. Nadistuti sukta

The Nadistuti sukta Sanskrit , hymn of praise of river s , is hymn 10.75 of the Rigveda . It is important for the reconstruction of the geography of the Vedic civilization . Sindhu the Indus is addressed as the mightiest of rivers and addressed specifically in verses 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9. In verse 5, the rishi enumerates ten rivers, beginning with the Ganges River Ganges and moving westwards O Ganga, Yamuna, Sarasvati, Shutudri Sutlej , Parushni Iravati, Ravi , follow my praise O Asikni Chenab Marudvridha, Vitasta Jhelum , with the Arjikiya Haro and Sushoma Sohan , listen Ganges River Ganges Yamuna Sarasvati River Sarasvati Sutudri Parusni Asikni Marudvrdha Vitasta Arjikiya Sohan River Susoma verse 6 adds northwestern rivers tributaries of the Indus flowing through Afghanistan and north western Pakistan , First united with the Trishtama in order to flow, with the Susartu and Rasa, and with this Svetya you flow , O Sindhu Indus with the Kubha Kabul R. to the Gomati Gomal , with the Mehatnu to the Krumu Kurram , with whom you rush together on the same chariot. Trstama Susartu Ras Shvetya Indus River Sindhu Kabul River Kubha Gomal River Gomati Krumu Mehatnu Ralph T.H. Griffith Griffith 1896 in his footnote to 10.75.5, explains this arrangement as follows the poet addresses first the most distant rivers. Ganga the Ganges is mentioned, indirectly, in only one other verse of the Rigveda, and even there, the word is said by some to be the name of a woman. See 6.45.31. add discussion of that verse More recent interpretations take the arrangement to corresponds to the eastward expansion of the Vedic culture. At the time of the hymns composition, it had expanded as far as the Gangetic plain , and the poet looks back west to the known lands already settled. Recent linguistic reconstruction suggests that Book 6 is one of the earliest of the Rigveda, while book 10 is one ... before the codification of the Rigveda.
