Puzzle Panel was a light hearted, though cerebral BBC Radio 4 panel game that was broadcast between 1998 and 2005. It was written and presented by puzzle columnist for The Guardian , Chris Maslanka . In each half hour programme, the panellists brought along one puzzle with which to test the mental mettle of the other two panellists and their host. Essentially, it was just for fun and no points were scored. Another puzzle, the Panel Beater, was contributed by a listener. A prize was available for solving a competition puzzle. Programme format During the opening introduction, Chris Maslanka would present a few short puzzles for the listeners and panellists to work on during the course of the programme. He would then introduce the three panellists, and invite each in turn to present a puzzle to the others. Each panellist would present a different type of puzzle. In general, one would be a numerical puzzle, one would be literal i.e. a word puzzle and one would be a logic puzzle. Interwoven between these puzzles, Chris would invite the panellists to solve the puzzles from the introduction, present the Panel Beater puzzle, and read out correspondence from the listeners. The rings are interlocked so as not to become misplaced. A traditional puzzle ring is a type of ring jewelry ring made up of four, six, eight, or twelve interconnected rings. Contemporary designs include rings of three, five or seven bands. Puzzle rings often appear to be endless knots, possibly pointing to a Celtic heritage. Reassembly is a form of mechanical puzzle . Many are Italy Italian or England English from the Renaissance period, although they are becoming more common in North America . They were developed from gimmal ring s, which derive their name from the Latin gemelli , meaning twins. Gimmal rings were used as wedding ring s, because if the wearer took off the ring in order to cheat on his or her spouse, they would then be unable to put it together again in time to avoid discovery. They are also sometimes called Turkish Wedding Rings or Harem Rings. In The Puzzle Ring , a children s time travel adventure written by the Australian author Kate Forsyth, the heroine Hannah must search for the four lost loops of a puzzle ring in order to break an ancient fairy curse upon her family. Image atsumari puzzle.svg right thumb 300px A simple Atsumari puzzle and solution. Atsumari lang ja translates as collection , meeting , or cluster is a binary determination puzzle that was originally developed by Quadratic Games for the iPhone platform. The puzzle is played on a hexagonal grid. A rectangular board shape is standard but variations to the board shape can be part of the puzzle design. The puzzle starts with a subset of the hexagonal cells containing a number greater than or equal to zero. The solution to the puzzle is a unique pattern of black white hexagonal cells that does not violate any of the puzzle rules. Rules Each cell containing a non zero number is considered white and must be part of an edge connected cluster of exactly that many white cells including the numbered cell . The white clusters are enclosed by black cells or the edge of the board. Thus, a cell containing a 1 must be enclosed by black cells and or the game board, a cell containing a 2 must have one edge connected neighboring white cell, etc. White clusters cannot contain more than one number. A cell containing the number 0 is considered black. The black cells of the board including the 0 cells must form a single edge connected cluster. A black cell cannot be surrounded by black cells. This is equivalent to saying that the black 7 cell hexagon shape is not allowed. Related puzzles Atsumari is similar to the puzzle Nurikabe based on a square grid published by Nikoli .
