    Cleanup date April 2008 Pye Chamberlayne March 7, 1938 October 21, 2006 was a U.S. radio journalist who spent most of his career with UPI Audio, later known as the UPI Radio Network. Born in Fredericksburg, Va. and raised in Richmond and New York City, Edward P. Chamberlayne, Jr., learned French in Paris while his father was news editor of the French edition of the New York Herald Tribune . He received a B.A. degree from the University of Virginia in 1960. After two years with Agence France Presse and a summer with the Associated Press , he joined the audio service of United Press International in New York. Transferred quickly to Washington, he covered first the White House and then the U.S. Congress and American politics and retired in 1999. He was a subject of The Boys on the Bus , Timothy Crouse s account of press coverage of the 1972 U.S. presidential campaign. He lived in Alexandria, Virginia from late 1960 s until he retired from UPI in 1999. In retirement, he moved to Calmes Neck near Boyce, VA . In 2006, he died at his home in Calmes Neck of a heart attack. Chamberlayne, the son of an English settler in Ireland, entered Gray s Inn in 1578 and became a barrister in 1585. As steward to Thomas Egerton, 1st Viscount Brackley Lord Ellesmere , and from 1591 solicitor to Henry Berkeley, 7th Baron Berkeley Lord Berkeley , he seems to have been reasonably well off, and was able to contribute to building projects at Gray s Inn and invest in lands in Oxfordshire . Life The grandson of Sir Thomas Chamberlayne , knight, at one time English ambassador in the Low Countries, and son of Thomas Chamberlayne, he was born at Oddington , Gloucestershire , on 13 December 1616. He was first educated at Gloucester , then entered St Edmund Hall, Oxford , at Michaelmas 1634, proceeded B.A. on 20 April 1638, and M.A. 6 March 1641. During a part of 1641 he held the office of rhetoric reader at Oxford. When the First English Civil War broke out he began a long continental tour, visiting France, Spain, Italy, Hungary, Bohemia , Sweden, and the Low Countries. At the English Restoration Restoration he returned to England, in 1669 became secretary to Charles Howard, 1st Earl of Carlisle , and went to Stockholm to invest Charles XI of Sweden with the Order of the Garter . The Baronetcy Pye of Leckhampstead was created on 27 April 1641 in the Baronetage of England, for Edmund Pye, who had purchased the Manor of Leckhampstead, Buckinghamshire in 1628. His daughter Martha married the John Lovelace, 3rd Baron Lovelace and their daughter Martha Johnson, 8th Baroness Wentworth Martha Johnson succeeded her paternal grandmother as 8th Baron Wentworth Baroness Wentworth .
