She was known in contemporary Europe for her beauty, love affairs and adventurous life style. She acted as an informal diplomat in influenced Austrian policy in a Pro Russian and anti French fashion, and is credited with having influenced Austria to join the coalition against Napoleon. She was the daughter of count Paul Martynovich Skavronsky and Yekaterina von Engelhardt , niece of Grigory Potyomkin , and married prince Pyotr Bagration in 1800. She separated from her spouse in 1805, and spent rest of her life in Europe. In 1810 15, she lived in Vienna , where she hosted a political salon which functioned as a center of anti Napoleonic opposition. She also had a relationship with Klemens von Metternich . She moved to Paris in 1815 and married Baron Howden in 1830. Born into a prominent aristocratic family of Prince Constantine IV of Mukhrani and Princess Khoreshan n e Guramishvili , Ivan Bagration was educated at St. Petersburg Page Corps and enlisted in the Nizhny Novgorod Dragoon Regiment in 1830. He participated in several expeditions against the rebellious mountaineers during the Caucasus War . In 1848, he was promoted to colonel and appointed commander of the Yerevan Grenadier Regiment. He became major general in 1851 and scored his most notable achievements during the Crimean War 1853 1856 , when Bagration, being in command of the Caucasian Reserve Grenadier Brigade, played a decisive role in the defeat of the Ottoman Empire Ottoman army at Basgedikler near Kars on November 19, 1853.
