The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community SMSC is located within parts of the cities of Prior Lake, Minnesota Prior Lake and Shakopee, Minnesota Shakopee in Scott County, Minnesota , and was previously known as Prior LakeIndianReservation until it was modified by the Indian Reorganization Act on November 28, 1969. As of the 2000 census, there was a population of 338 persons living on reservation land. All of the population lived in the Prior Lake portion of the reservation, which comprises 80 percent of its land area. The portion in the city of Shakopee was uninhabited at that time. The tribe operates the Mystic Lake Casino and Little Six Casino , which are very successful due to their proximity to the Minneapolis St. Paul metropolitan area.
