Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 Orphan date December 2009 A film sculptor is employed within the art department of a feature film . Their skills are and can be used to create any number of different things from giant rocks in a landscape or oversized stone blocks cladding the facade of a castle to statuary and ornate panelling, to more specialized pieces such as a vehicle hull for a fantasy film. The material often utilised for large scale rocks or columns is polystyrene because it is light and can be carved easily using a hot wire. Polystyrene can also be used to sculpt mid sized items that are difficult to build in wood and too large for clay an item such as a moulded chair can then be cast with plaster and reproduced in fibre glass . Clay modelling is still preferable for any item needing detail and is always used for smaller and finer work. The Sculptor s Funeral is a short story by Willa Cather . It was first published in McClure s in 1905 ref Willa Cather s Collected Short Fiction, University of Nebraska Press Rev Ed edition, 1 Nov 1970, page 588 ref Plot summary In a small town in Kansas , the body of Harvey Merrick, a famed sculptor, is brought back to his parents house. Only Jim Laird, Harvey s old friend, and Henry Steavens, his student, have any real emotion. While the mother cries out in overdone and insincere grief, Steavens and Laird remark on Harvey s harsh upbringing, and wonder how he ever made it out of the town. Later, the mother, showing her cruelty, yells at her maid for forgetting to do the salad dressing. Before the funeral, when the town s leading citizens make fun of Harvey for his education and eastern lifestyle, Laird then lashes out at them, exposing the corruption of their ideals, along with their practice of usury , gambling , shootings and so forth. Only Harvey escaped the corruption that s why they hated him. The next day, Laird, who is disgusted with himself for never having done what Harvey did find a life elsewhere , is too drunk to attend the funeral. We re told he dies shortly thereafter.
