He wrote in a unique style, using powerful imagery and strong adjectives, often employing non linear plot lines and switching viewpoints from character to character. In 1937, her parents fled the Battle of Nanking Japanese attack on the city , and resettled in Chongqing . Desiring to be an artist, the young Qiu studied painting, and then taught it for a while. In 1963, she was assigned to work in a factory in Beijing in a job unrelated to her youthful aspirations the production of measuring equipment for the Chinese National Institute of Metrology NIM . During the Cultural Revolution , many researchers at the NIM had been fired, and in 1976 Qiu was asked to become part of their staff. Although not formally awarded the title of researcher until the 1990s, Qiu worked in a small group established on her arrival and tasked to survey historical Chinese metrology. Although she officially retired in 1999, Qiu became attached to her historical investigations, and continued to work at the Institute thereafter. According to Robert P.     Qiu Chang Chun Xi You Ji Travels to the West of Qiu Chang Chun , was a record of journey of the Taoist monk Qiu Chuji from Shandong, China through central Asia to present himself before Genghis Khan . In 1220 , on the invitation of Genghis Khan with a golden tablet, Qiu Chuji left his home town Shangdong with nineteen disciples, and travelled through Peking and travelled north. In June, they reached Te Hing and stayed in the Lung Yun Taosit Temple from summer to end of winter. On February 1221, they resumed their journey. When asked by friends and disciples when to expect the master to return, the master answered In three years, three years . On February 3, they reached Chui Ping Kou, they saw Tai Hang Mountain to their south. Travelled north then north east, they arrived at Kai Li Po salt lake. From there they went to Lake Buyur , Hulunbuir , Ulan Bator , Arkhangai Province Arkhangai , Altay Mountains , Bishbulik , Dzungaria , Samarkand and arrived at Hindu Kush of Afghanistan in 1222 and presented himself before Genghis Khan.
