It is located on the west side of the Ngozumpa Glacier, which is the largest glacier in Nepal, and reputed to be the largest in the whole Himalayas. Gokyo 4750 m, 15 583 ft above sea level , at the base of Gokyo Ri, is a small hamlet of a few stone houses. From Gokyo Ri it is possible to see five 8,000 metre peaks Mount Everest , Lhotse , Makalu , Kangchenjunga , and Cho Oyu . The Gokyo trek is a fairly popular trekking route. The route itself ends at Gokyo Ri, and trekkers typically turn around at this point and retrace their steps back to the trailhead. There is an alternative mountaineering route that begins near the southern tip of Ngozumpa Glacier and just south of Taujun Lake. This alternative route leads east over the Cho La, a pass at 5420 m 17 782 ft , where it meets with the main Everest Base Camp trek. There is another higher summit just north of where the main Gokyo trek route ends. Anjeong ri is a community located in the southwestern area of Pyeongtaek Pyeongtaek City , Gyeonggi do Gyeonggi Province , Republic of Korea. Anjeong ri is located on the perimeter of Camp Humphreys USAG Humphreys , a US Army facility undergoing rapid expansion. In 1919, Japan built an airfield in Anjeong ri. This airfield was enlarged over the years and by 1941 contained the Japanese Navy s Establishment Corps 302, a group of fighter planes, including the Mitubishi Zero. In 1945, following the defeat of Japan in WWII, this base was utilized by American forces and is currently under expansion to become the largest military base in Korea, combining Republic of Korea and US Army military forces. The village of Anjeong ri is expanding to meet the infastructure needs as the civilian and military population grows. It was the site of the Battle of Chipyong ni during the Korean War , February 1951. A memorial has been erected at the site, which is split into three portions Korean, American and French. The area was an important transportation and communication hub. The battle is sometimes known as the Gettysburg of the Korean War. The battle saw 5,600 Korean, American and French forces under the command of Colonel Paul L. Freeman, 23 RCT, defeat a numerically superior People s Republic of China Chinese force in hard fighting. Surrounded on all sides, the 2nd Infantry Warrior Division s 23rd Regimental Combat Team with an attached French Battalion was hemmed in by more than 25,000 Chinese Communist Forces around Jipyeong ri. United Nations Forces had previously retreated in the face of the Communist forces instead of getting cut off, but this time they stood and fought.
