Armine Nutting Gosling 1861 December 15, 1942 was a suffragette , best known in Newfoundland for her involvement in the nascent Newfoundland and Labrador Newfoundland women s rights movement. Born in Waterloo, Quebec , Canada East , Gosling came to St. John s, Newfoundland and Labrador to teach at the Church of England Girl s School Bishop Spencer College , where she met and married William Gilbert Gosling . Gosling is well known in St. John s for her community work she worked for the Society for the Protection of Animals and the Child Welfare Association , and was the first female member of the Council of Higher Education in Newfoundland . Gosling, however, is best remembered for her involvement in the Newfoundland women s rights movement, where she was founder and first Secretary of the Ladies Reading Room and Current Events Club Old Colony Club . After World War I she became active in politics as president of the Women s Party , which ran two candidates in the 1925 St. John s municipal election. This was the first election that allowed Newfoundland women to vote. Upon her husband s death, Gosling presented his book collection to the city of St. John s. This collection subsequently formed the nucleus of the Gosling Memorial Library at the Memorial University of Newfoundland . Subsequently further water supply dams were built at Lake Canobolas then known as Meadow Creek Dam in 1918 and then Spring Creek Reservoir New South Wales Spring Creek Reservoir in 1931. The latest and current main dam built for water supply purposes to Orange is Suma Park Dam which was opened in 1962. Gosling Creek Reservoir is no longer used for the Orange water supply, and in recent years City of Orange Orange City Council has been developing the area as a recreation reserve. Facilities being developed include a pedestrian and cycle way system, playground, bird hide, passive recreation areas. The reservoir was previously surrounded by pine plantations which have been logged and progressively replaced by native vegetation plantings.
