  1. Reading frame

In biology , a reading frame is a way of breaking a sequence of nucleotides in DNA or RNA into three letter codons which can be Translation genetics translated in amino acids . There are 3 possible reading frames in an mRNA strand each reading frame corresponds to a different starting alignment. Double stranded DNA has six different reading frames per molecule due to the two strands from which transcription is possible three of them reading forward and three of them reading backwards. The existence of multiple reading frames leads to the possibility of overlapping gene s there may be many of these in bacteria and fungi. ref name Johnson 2004 cite journal author Johnson Z, Chisholm S title Properties of overlapping genes are conserved across microbial genomes journal Genome Res volume 14 issue 11 pages 2268 72 year 2004 pmid 15520290 doi 10.1101 gr.2433104 pmc 525685 ref Some viruses, e.g. Hepatitis B virus and BYDV , use several overlapping genes in different reading frames. In rare cases a translating ribosome may shift from one frame to another, a translational frameshift . This is distinct from a frameshift mutation , as the nucleotide sequence DNA or RNA is not altered only the frame in which it is read. An open reading frame ORF is a reading frame that contains a start codon , and a subsequent region which usually has a length which is a multiple of 3 nucleotides, but does not contain a stop codon in a given reading frame. ref name deonier2005p25 cite book author Richard Deonier coauthors Simon Tavar , Michael Waterman title Computational Genome Analysis an introduction publisher Springer Verlag year 2005 isbn 0387987851 ref deonier2005 ref References references See also Genetic code GeneticTranslation DEFAULTSORT Reading Frame Category Protein biosynthesis Category Genetics Category Molecular biology de Leseraster he hu Leolvas si keret pl Ramka odczytu sl Bralni okvir zh ...   more details

  1. Open reading frame

In molecular genetics , an open reading frame ORF is the part of a gene that actually encodes a protein. The transcription terminator transcription termination pause site is located after the ORF, beyond the Translation biology translation stop codon , because if transcription were to cease before the ribosome reaches the translation stop codon, an incomplete protein would be made. ref Slonczewski, Joan, and John Watkins. Foster. Microbiology An Evolving Science. New York W.W. Norton &, 2009. Print. ref Normally, insert molecular biology insert s which interrupt the reading frame of a subsequent region after the start codon cause frameshift mutation of the sequence and dislocate the sequences for stop codons. See Template PBB Controls to Stop updates. PBB Summary section title summary text This gene encodes a highly basic protein localized to the nucleus. The evolutionarily constrained open reading frame is found on a bicistronic transcript which has a downstream ORF encoding the small nuclear ribonucleoprotein polypeptide N. The upstream coding region utilizes the first three exons of the transcript, a region that has been identified as an imprinting center. Multiple transcription initiation sites have been identified and extensive alternative splicing occurs in the 5 untranslated region but the full length nature of these transcripts has not been determined. An alternate exon has been identified that substitutes for exon 4 and leads to a truncated, monocistronic transcript. Alternative splicing or deletion caused by a translocation event in the 5 UTR or coding region of this gene leads to Angelman syndrome or Prader Willi syndrome due to parental imprint switch failure. The function of this protein is not yet known. ref name entrez References reflist Further reading refbegin 2 PBB Further reading citations cite journal author Schmauss C title A comparison of snRNP associated Sm autoantigens human N, rat N and human B B journal Nucleic Acids Res. volume 17 issue 4 pages 1733 43 year 1989 pmid ...   more details

An A frame is a basic structure designed to bear a load in a lightweight economical manner. The simplest form of an A frame is two similarly sized beams, arranged in a 45 degree or greater angle, attached at the top. These materials are often wooden or steel beams attached at the top by rope, welding , Adhesive gluing , or rivet ing. Because they have only two legs , A frames are usually set up in rows so that they can have good stability. A saw horse is a good example of this structure.
