Orphan date February 2011 File Muffe Eines Steigleitungsrohrs Detail.jpg thumb hammer paint on a piece of pipe Hammer paint is a special lacquer with a surface that looks like hammered metal when dried. The slightly iridescent areas are caused by the different orientation of very small shiny particles which are Suspension chemistry suspended in the lacquer. These particles are often made of the mineral mica . Mica is chemically inactive and very resistant. Hammer paint is often used to beautify technical apparatus and not so commonly as a protective coating. The optical advantage of hammer paint is that surfaces look acceptable even if the underlying surface is not flat and smooth. To get a regular paint to look smooth the surface would have to be prepared first, for example by spackling, sanding, grinding or polishing. With hammer paint, this step can be omitted. Beyond that, the resistance of the mica improves the durability of the paint job. The mica reduces aging by protecting the underlying binders from UV radiation . The mica also makes hammer paint relatively hard and scratch resistant. Category Paints material stub chemistry stub de Hammerschlaglackierung ... more details

A paint mask is worn in the same fashion as a dust mask or surgical mask , but it is dangerous to confuse the three because they each protect against specific airborne dangers. Using the wrong mask for a job can present a significant and possibly deadly danger as some masks may protect against dust particles, but not protect against chemical vapors. Unreferenced date December 2009 A paint marker is a type of marker pen that is used to create permanent writing on a variety of surfaces from paper to metal to stone. Ink Unlike with most permanent marker s the ink is an oil based paint and generally requires shaking before use, similar to an aerosol spray paint can. In addition, the line is very opaque and, unlike spirit based or other permanent inks, will not fade with exposure to UV light, and overlays all other colors beneath it. The paint from these types of markers is not truly permanent, as it can be removed using high pressure cleaning , paint thinner paint thinning solvent s such as acetone , or it can simply be painted over. Dangers Paint markers like permanent markers generally contain the toxic compounds xylene or toluene , introducing some danger when used. Like spray paint, these markers give off volatile organic compounds which can be dangerous when not used in a well ventilated area or with a particulate mask . Gloves can also be worn to avoid absorption through the skin. Solidified paint pens Another type of paint marker is the solidified paint pen. This is a type of marker, often contained within a twist tube, that is a cylinder of semi hardened oil paint with a pointed tip. As one writes with it, the point wears down and must be advanced to in order to continue writing. The marker leaves a mark similar to that of chalk . It is useful for marking on wet or oily surfaces. notability date August 2009 A Fresh Paint is a charity practice charity fundraiser that includes artists painting outdoors. They generally involve some mixture of silent and live auction immediately following the creation of the paintings and before they are fully dry. The first Fresh Paint art event was held in 1988 by the Copley Society of Art in Boston, Massachusetts, and continues to be held there annually in springtime. Fresh Paint fundraising events increase visibility for non profit art organizations. At the Copley event, artists spend one day together painting outdoors, or en plein air in the city of Boston. The paintings are brought back to the gallery wet, placed directly into frames, and hung immediately on the walls. The paintings are then listed for sale through silent auction ref Fresh paint artist get ready to dip their dip brushes The Boston Globe,Boston, MA. June 12, 1998 M. R. Montgomery, Globe Staff ref .
