  1. Grid network

expert subject date March 2011 A grid network is a kind of computer network consisting of a number of computer systems connected in a grid topology. In a regular grid topology, each node in the network is connected with two neighbors along one or more dimension s. If the network is one dimensional, and the chain of nodes is connected to form a circular loop, the resulting topology is known as a ring. Network systems such as Fiber distributed data interface FDDI use two counter rotating token passing rings to achieve high reliability and performance. In general, when an n dimensional grid network is connected circularly in more than one dimension, the resulting network topology is a torus , and the network is called toroidal . When the number of nodes along each dimension of a toroidal network is 2, the resulting network is called a hypercube . A parallel computing cluster or multi core processor is often connected in regular interconnection network such as a de Bruijn graph , ref http www.era.lib.ed.ac.uk bitstream 1842 860 1 Spadavecchia thesis.pdf A Network based Asynchronous Architecture for Cryptographic Devices by Ljiljana Spadavecchia 2005. section 5.6.1.2 De Bruijn graphs , and section 5.6.2.2 Randomised routing in de Bruijn graphs . ref a hypercube graph , a hypertree network , a fat tree network, a torus , or cube connected cycles . 1. Unstructured grid

Image Unstructured grid.svg thumb right Example of unstructured grid for a finite element analysis mesh. An unstructured or irregular grid is a tessellation of a part of the Euclidean plane or Euclidean space by simple shapes, such as triangle s or tetrahedron tetrahedra , in an irregular pattern. Grids of this type may be used in finite element analysis when the input to be analyzed has an irregular shape. Unlike structured grid s, unstructured grids require a list of the connectivity graph theory connectivity which specifies the way a given set of vertices make up individual elements see graph data structure . Ruppert s algorithm is often used to convert an irregularly shaped polygon into an unstructured grid of triangles. In addition to triangles and tetrahedra, other commonly used elements in finite element simulation include quadrilateral 4 noded and hexahedral 8 noded elements in 2D and 3D, respectively. One of the most commonly used algorithms to generate unstructured quadrilateral grid is Paving Citation needed date February 2010 . However, there is no such commonly used algorithm for generating unstructured hexahedral grid on a general 3D solid model. Plastering is a 3D version of Paving, Citation needed date February 2010 , but it has difficulty in forming hexahedral elements at the interior of a solid. 1. Tension grid

Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 A tension grid is a type of non standard Catwalk theater catwalk though it does not meet the structural standards of a traditional catwalk. It is composed of a tightly stretched grid of steel cables that create a taut floor that is strong enough for technicians to walk on. Benefits Lighting instruments can be hung on a pipe grid just above the tension grid there is no need for holes, as the Stage lighting instrument light can shine through the grid, virtually unobstructed, to the stage. Cables and electrical wires can pass through, and special fixtures may be used to allow beams and other solid material to pass through. This style of catwalk is popular in new and remodeled theatres due to the flexibility it provides. Use of a tension grid does not require working off of edges as a traditional catwalk does, as lights are over the walking surface, not next to it. As a result, many consider tension grids safer in terms of risk of falling. Costs Tension grids require regular inspection. Lights shining through the tension grid light up a section of the grid itself, which some audience members find distracting. The cables of the grid absorb and redirect some of the light from a fixture, leading to a negligible loss in total light output. Working on a tension grid takes time to get used to because of the bouncing nature from walking across the surface. This motion coupled with the illusion of no floor at times makes it disconcerting to some. 1. Gaussian grid

Image NCEP T62 gaussian grid.png thumb NCEP T62 Gaussian grid points 400px right NCEP T62 Gaussian grid points A Gaussian grid is used in the earth science s as a gridded horizontal coordinate system for scientific modeling on a sphere i.e., the approximate shape of the Earth . The grid is rectangular, with a set number of orthogonal coordinates usually latitude and longitude . The gridpoints along the longitudes are equally spaced, while they are unequally spaced along the latitudes, where they are defined by their Gaussian quadrature . There are no grid points at the geographical pole poles . In a regular Gaussian grid, the number of gridpoints along the longitudes is constant, usually double the number along the latitudes. In a reduced or thinned Gaussian grid, the number of gridpoints in the rows decreases towards the poles, which keeps the gridpoint separation approximately constant across the sphere. 1. Suppressor grid

Refimprove date May 2007 A suppressor grid is a grid used in a thermionic valve also called vacuum tube to suppress secondary emission . A suppressor grid is also called the antidynatron grid, as it helps to reduce the dynatron effect. Placement In its simplest form, a suppressor grid, typically of coarse structure, is interposed between the screen grid and the anode Plate electrode plate of a tetrode , turning it into a pentode . Electrical connection of grid The suppressor grid is usually connected to the cathode and more often than not, this connection is made within the glass envelope. Because the grid is negatively charged relative to both the anode and the screen grid, it repels any secondary electrons back to the anode preventing them from contributing to the screen grid current, and to any negative resistance characteristic. 1. Semantic Grid

notability date January 2012 confusing date September 2011 The Semantic Grid refers to an approach to grid computing in which information, computing resources and services are described using the semantic data model . In this model the data and metadata are expressed through facts small sentences . Therefore it becomes directly understandable for humans. This makes it easier for resources to be discovered and joined up automatically, which helps bring resources together to create virtual organization grid computing virtual organizations VOs . The descriptions constitute metadata and are typically represented using the technologies of the Semantic Web , such as the Resource Description Framework RDF . By analogy with the Semantic Web, the Semantic Grid can be defined as an extension of the current Grid in which information and services are given well defined meaning, better enabling computers and people to work in cooperation. This notion of the Semantic Grid was first articulated in the context of e Science , observing that such an approach is necessary to achieve a high degree of easy to use and seamless automation enabling flexible collaborations and computations on a global scale. The use of Semantic Web and other knowledge technologies in Grid applications is sometimes described as the Knowledge Grid . Semantic Grid extends this by also applying these technologies within the Grid middleware . 1. Grid code

A grid code is a technical specification which defines the parameters an facility connected to a public electric network has to meet to ensure safe, secure and economic proper functionning of the electric system. The facility can be an electricity generation electricity generating plant , a consumer, or another network. The grid code is specified by an authority responsible for the system integrity and network operation. Its elaboration usually implicates network operators distribution and or tranmission operators , representative of users and to, an extent varying between countries, the regulating body. Independent power producers All generators including Independent power producer s like photovoltaic power station s or wind farm s have to comply with the grid code. 1. European grid

About a map system the computer network European Grid Infrastructure Multiple issues orphan July 2010 context April 2009 no footnotes April 2009 wikify December 2011 The European grid proposed as the multipurpose Pan European standard is based on the ETRS89 Lambert azimuthal equal area projection Lambert Azimuthal Equal Area coordinate reference system with the centre of the projection at the point 52o N, 10o E and false easting x0 4321000 m, false northing y0 3210000 m CRS identifier in Inspire ETRS89 LAEA . The grid is designated as Grid ETRS89 LAEA5210. For identification of an individual resolution level the name is extended by identification of cell size in metres example 100K . The origin of Grid ETRS89 LAEA5210 coincides with the false origin of the ETRS89 LAEA coordinate reference system x 0, y 0 . Grid points of grids based on ETRS89 LAEA must coincide with grid points at Grid ETRS89 LAEA5210. The grid is defined as hierarchical one in metric coordinates in power of 10. The resolution of the grid is 1m, 10m, 100m, 1000m, 10,000m, 100,000m. The grid orientation is south north, west east. 1. Grid-hpa

Orphan date February 2009 Grid History Based Prediction Architecture Grid HPA is a tool for predicting the resource requirements of jobs in the Grid Computing environment based on a centralized History maintenance approach. Grid HPA has been implemented by Mahdi Bohlouli in the Iran University of Science and Technology IUST . The programming language used for implementing the tools is Java programming language Java . A SQL Server database management system has been used to store the history of executed jobs. The proposed algorithm of prediction can be used for every job in every environment, except of Grid computing. The measured accuracy of prediction in a centralized approach is better than a decentralized method, but both of these methods have advantages and disadvantages. ref Bohlouli M., Analoui M., Grid HPA Predicting Resource Requirements of a Job in The Grid Environments ,International Journal of Computer Science, Volume 3, Number 3, ISSN 2070 3856, Pages 137 141, Summer 2008 ref references Category Grid computing ...   more details
