The Austrian Empire Austrian Reichstag National Diet assembly Diet or Imperial Diet assembly Diet in the German language was the first elected parliament in the Austrian Empire . It lasted for only a short time between 1848 and 1849, but had an important effect on Austrian history. Formed after the Revolutions of 1848 in the Habsburg areas March Revolution of 1848, the Diet consisted of 383 deputies from the German speaking and Slavic crown lands of the Austrian Empire Habsburg Austria , that is, without a representative of the Kingdom of Hungary . It met for the first time on 22 July 1848 and was opened by Archduke Johann . On the 22nd October 1848, in the wake of the Vienna Uprising , it relocated to Kremsier and was finally dissolved on March 7, 1849. Its most important work was the abolition of the feudal system . The concept of a Reichstag as representative body of the Austrian people turned up again in the October Diploma of 1860, but this would have required ratification by the various state legislatures of the Austrian Empire , which was not forthcoming. After the adoption of the February Patent in 1861, another attempt was made to elect a general representative body for the people, mainly from Prime Minister Anton von Schmerling . This, too, failed to due to opposition from the Hungarian and Italian, and subsequently, Czech lands of the empire. A rump parliament did serve in a temporary wooden building in the Schmerling Theater in Vienna . This Parliament was named the Reichsrat Imperial Council in German , because Emperor Francis Joseph I wanted it to serve in only a consultative role. It was formed in Zgharta , north Lebanon by several of the important families there to fight the Ottoman invasion. After the fall of the Ottoman empire, the institution was led by the Frangieh family and became involved in politics. First led by Kabalan Frangieh, then by Hamid his older son. After Hamid died, his brother Sleiman became the leader, made the institution a militia during the Lebanese civil war, and became a Lebanese president. His son Tony was killed by Bachir Gemayel s Lebanese Forces militia. Tony s son Sleiman Jr. survived the attack and took lead of the institution after his grandfather s death. It houses convicted felon s and in some cases also people with custody rulings in need of psychiatric assistance and observation. Herstedvester was built in 1935 for the detention and imprisonment of psychopaths . The prison is the largest Correctional Service of Canada federal correctional institution in Canada with a population of approximately 580 housed in five units. It is a male only facility and generally one third of the inmates are imprisoned for a sexually related offence. History Construction of Warkworth Institution started on March 26, 1965 on convert 208 acre km2 of land that had been purchased by the Department of Justice. In 1967, the institution began operation entirely with staff and no inmate population. In September 1967, ten block was opened and the first six inmates arrived from Joyceville Institution . The official opening took place on October 14, 1967. At the end of the 1968 fiscal year, the facility housed 92 inmates. In 1971, the Living Unit concept was introduced. A riot broke out at approximately 9 00pm on July 21, 2009, during which prisoners took control of the prison infirmary.
