  1. Electrophone (information system)

The name Electrophone was used for a telephone distributed audio system which operated in the United Kingdom between 1895 and 1926, relaying live theatre and music hall shows and, on Sundays, live sermons from churches via special headsets connected to conventional phone lines. This was similar to the France French Theatrophone system and the Hungary Hungarian Telefon H rmond which carried news, entertainment and fiction readings. These hard wired systems can be seen as important forerunners of radio broadcasting, and are the reason radio in the U.K. was for many years called the wireless . The machines are used as an alternative to the manual labour once used. Mounted on a lightweight chassis with rail wheels, the operators cab and lifting arm pivot on a base, enabling 360 degree rotation. The end of the lifting arm has a gripper for picking up sleepers, and a movable wrist to allow the tie to be positioned. 1. Relay channel

In information theory , a relay Channel communications channel is a probability model of the communication between a Communication source sender and a receiver aided by one or more intermediate relay nodes. It is a combination of the broadcast channel from sender to relays and receiver and multiple access channel from sender and relays to receiver . General discrete time memoryless relay channel A discrete memoryless single relay channel can be modelled as four finite sets, math X 1, X 2, Y 1, math and math Y math , and a conditional probability distribution math p y,y 1 x 1,x 2 math on these sets. The probability distribution of the choice of symbols selected by the encoder and the relay encoder is represented by math p x 1,x 2 math . pre nowiki o o Relay Encoder o o A y1 x2 V o o x1 o o y o o Encoder p y,y1 x1,x2 Decoder o o o o o o nowiki pre There exist three main relaying schemes Decode and Forward, Compress and Forward and Amplify and Forward. The first two schemes were first proposed in the pioneer article by Cover and El Gamal. Decode and Forward DF In this relaying scheme, the relay decodes the source message in one block and transmits the re encoded message in the following block. The achievable rate of DF is known as math max p x 1,x 2 min left I left x 1 y 1 x 2 right , I left x 1, x 2 y right right math . Compress and Forward CF In this relaying scheme, the relay quantizes the received signal in one block and transmits the encoded version of the quantized received signal in the following block. Amplify and Forward AF In this relaying scheme, the relay sends an amplified version of the received signal in the last time slot. Comparing with DF and CF, AF requires much less delay as the relay node operates time slot by time slot. Also, AF requires much less computing power as no decoding or quantiz ...   more details

The Global Telecommunications System GTS is a global network for the transmission of meteorology meteorological data from weather station s, satellite s and numerical weather prediction centres. The GTS consists of an integrated network of point to point circuits, and multi point circuits which interconnect meteorological telecommunication centres. The circuits of the GTS are composed of a combination of terrestrial and satellite telecommunication links. They comprise point to point circuits, point to multi point circuits for data distribution, multi point to point circuits for data collection, as well as two way multi point circuits. Meteorological Telecommunication Centres are responsible for receiving data and relaying it selectively on GTS circuits. The GTS is organized on a three level basis The Main Telecommunication Network MTN The Regional Meteorological Telecommunication Networks RMTNs The National Meteorological Telecommunication Networks NMTNs Satellite based data collection and or data distribution systems are integrated in the GTS as an essential element of the global, regional and national levels of the GTS. Data collection systems operated via geostationary or near polar orbiting meteorological environmental satellites, including the Argos System , are widely used for the collection of observational data from data collection platforms. Marine data are also collected through the International Maritime Mobile Service and Inmarsat satellites. 1. Intelligent electronic device

Unreferenced date December 2009 An Intelligent Electronic Device IED is a term used in the electric power industry to describe microprocessor based controllers of power system equipment, such as circuit breaker s, transformer s, and capacitor banks. Description IEDs receive data from sensors and power equipment, and can issue control commands, such as tripping circuit breakers if they sense voltage , Electric current current , or frequency anomalies, or raise lower voltage levels in order to maintain the desired level. Common types of IEDs include protective relaying devices, load tap changer controllers, circuit breaker controllers, capacitor bank switches, recloser controllers, voltage regulators, etc. Digital protective relay s are primarily IEDs, using a microprocessor to perform several protective, control, and similar functions. A typical IED can contain around 5 12 protection functions, 5 8 control functions controlling separate devices, an autoreclose function, self monitoring function, communication functions etc. Hence, they are aptly named as Intelligent Electronic Devices. Some recent IEDs are designed to support the IEC61850 standard for electrical substation substation automation, which provides interoperability and advanced communications capabilities. 1. Elimination races

Unreferenced auto yes date December 2009 Elimination races in bicycle racing are a form of race wherein during the course of the race, certain participants are eliminated through various criteria. The most common types of elimination races are the Miss and Out and the Win and Out. Miss and Out The Miss and Out or Devil Take the Hindmost is a race run for individual competitors or, more rarely, for teams of two relaying each other as in the Madison cycling Madison . At the end of every lap or every set number of laps the last rider to cross the line is eliminated from the race. When just a handful of riders remain, they sprint for the finish. Tactically, the real racing in a devil happens at the back of the field. With riders at the front riding steadily and those behind moving up on the elimination laps to find a safe spot, the race favours riders with nerve and track craft. The telescoping of the field means crashes are more common than in other races, especially among inexperienced riders. Win and Out The Win and Out is similar to the Miss and Out, however, rather than the last rider being eliminated the first rider to cross the line is removed from the race. The first rider removed wins first place, the second rider removed wins second place, and so on.
