Ayyavazhi Unreferenced date March 2012 The religiousstudies of Ayyavazhi are based primarily on the Ayyavazhi scriptures . Though there is enough knowledge there for a common worshiper to understand Ayyavazhi theology , it needs the Hindu and at some times the scriptures of other religions including abrahamic to be referred to undergo a detailed religious study on Akilam . Because Akilam maintains a unique type of relation with the other scriptures. On one hand it rejects Hindu scriptures by saying that they have lost their divinity by the activities of Kaliyan Kali , but on the other many of the theological , mythical as well as philosophical terms and concepts from Hindu scriptures are adopted directly and indirectly. However it s unavoidable to refer Hindu scriptures to find more details about the ideology of Akilam . Mythology It was considered that one should have a basic knowledge about the Hindu scriptures and its concepts to get into the philosophical study of Ayyavazhi . Almost all the God heads either lesser or higher in power found in Akilam with only a least and undetailed introduction on their how and whereabouts. They just plays their part to the long mythical story line of the Ayyavazhi mythology . But to understand the core philosophy of that event and the reason behind the involvement of that God head to that event one should have already known the details about that particular God head, which was not found in Akilam . Also only there a least possibility to know the relationship between several mythical figures other than the higher God heads. And for all these details including their story background, origin etc. Regarding mythology The Mahabharata , Ramayana ... conception is accepted as in Hindu scriptures for religiousstudies. Michael York is an English ReligiousStudies scholar who specializes in the study of pre Christian European religion and its relation to Paganism contemporary religions Contemporary Paganism . In 2003, he published Pagan Theology , in which he put forward the idea that the ancient pre Christian and pre Islamic religions of Eurasia, indigenous religions from across the globe, and contemporary Pagan faiths could all be constituted as forms of paganism . Personal life Describing his own religious beliefs and his affection for paganism, York remarked that If I had to name my own denominational predilection, I would say that I am a religionist. I believe in religion itself and its central role in expanding human consciousness above and beyond immediate daily concerns. I see religion as an ongoing dialogue that questions the purpose of life and our terrestrial incarnations. In my own pursuit and love of religion as religion, I have been particularly attracted to paganism not only as the source and origin of all religion but also as an organic alternative to the institutionalized and parochial insularity that much religious expression has become. ref Yor03 York 2003 . p. ix. ref Bibliography Books class wikitable plainrowheaders sortable scope col Title scope col Year scope col Publisher scope col class unsortable ISBN scope row The Roman Festival Calendar of Numa Pompilius 1986 Peter Lang New York scope row The Emerging Network A Sociology of the New Age and Neo pagan Movements 1995 Rowman & Littlefield Lanham, Maryland scope row The Divine versus the Asurian An Interpretation of Indo European Cult and Myth 1995 Rowman & Littlefield Lanham, Maryland scope row Pagan Theology Paganism ... title Pagan Theology Paganism as a World Religion last aut York, Michael authorlink Michael York religiousstudies scholar year 2003 publisher New York University Press location New York isbn 978 0 8147 9702 0 nopp ref Yor03 Category Pagan studies scholars York, Michael Category English academics ... more details

Unreferenced date December 2009 Religious interpretation and similarly religious self interpretation define a section of religion related studies theology , comparative religion , reason where attention is given to aspects of perception&mdash where religious symbolism and the self image of all those who hold religious views have important bearing on how others perceive their particular belief system and its adherents. Self interpretation Often teachers of religion preachers, monks, rabbis make a claim that their religions are not religions at all &mdash rather are Way of Life, a Reality, or The Truth. From the point of view of another religion s aherents, claims like this are often seen to be diametrically opposed to their own teaching and belief. A Taoist who says for example that Tao is not a religion , rather is a way of life may find a very different view from a Christian minister, or a Hindu priest. The typical claim then, is Despite what another religion may claim, our truth is the real truth, or closer to the real truth. namely God . Hence a claim, by one religion s adherents that its truth is greater than the other. The irony is obvious While each tradition aspires to appear as close to an essential truth &mdash one which transcends material concerns and perceptual appearances, each will have adherents who maintain very localized and material concerns for its own traditional symbols and language. Logically then, it is only by these localized views that one religion s adherents may see others as inferior.
