Refimprove date August 2007 Image Signalreflectors.JPG thumb right 250px A typical microwave repeater link setup, this one located near Wire Mountain Salt Lake City, Utah , United States of America USA File Ripetitori passivi.jpg thumb upright Passive repeater in unknown location A passive radio link deflection , or passive repeater is a outside plant plant for the implementation of a microwave link , in which because of an obstacle in the signal path no direct Line of sight propagation line of sight microwave link is possible. It has the advantage over the installation of a microwave radio relay station with active components, that at the place of the installation no electricity supply is required and that no further frequencies are needed at repeater stations with active components usually different frequencies for reception and transmission are used, in order to prevent feedbacks . The corresponding disadvantage is that the returned signal is significantly weaker. Passive radio relay link deflection systems in the vertical level can be realized by receiving the signal with a parabolic antenna and leading it through a waveguide to a second parabolic antenna, where it is radiated. For passive microwave radio relay link deflections in the horizontal plane, flat surfaces of metallic material are used, arranged so that the angle of incoming beam corresponds to the angle of the outcoming signal. The resulting structure resembles a billboard advertising billboard . For small deflection angles, cavity prisms can be used. Similar systems are used also occasionally for TV relay transmitter s or as tunnel transmitter . Here a Yagi antenna receives the signal of the transmitter and supplies it by way of a coaxial cable to a second antenna. Repeater insertion is a technique for reducing the time delay associated with long wire lines in integrated circuits. The technique involves cutting the long wire into one or more short wires and inserting a repeater between each new pair of short wires. The time it takes for a signal to travel from one end of a wire to the other end is known as wire line delay or just delay. In an integrated circuit, this delay is characterized by RC circuit RC , the Electrical resistance resistance of the wire R multiplied by the wire s capacitance C . Thus, if the wire s resistance is 100 ohm s and its capacitance is 0.01 Farad microfarad F , the wire s delay is one microsecond s . To first order, the resistance of a wire on an integrated circuit is directly proportional , or linear , according to the wire s length. If a 1 mm length of the wire has 100 ohms resistance, then a 2 mm length will have 200 ohms resistance. For the purposes of our highly simplified discussion, the capacitance of a wire also increases linearly along its length. If a 1 mm length of the wire has 0.01 F capacitance, a 2 mm length of the wire will have 0.02 F, a 3 mm wire will have 0.03 F, and so on. Thus, the time delay through a wire increases with the square of the wire s length. This is true, to first order, for any wire whose cross section remains constant along the length of the wire. border 1 style text align center     wire length         resistance R         capacitance ... the signal from one to the next. An active circuit used for such a purpose is known as a repeater . In a CMOS integrated circuit, the repeater is often a simple inverter. The Cookson repeater is a flintlock magazine gun made by John Cookson in 1690. The mechanism used in the rifle is similar as those found in Michele Lorenzoni s pistols. The gun was designed to shoot 12 consecutive shot before reloading by means of turning a crank after each shot. This gave users of the gun a significant advantage over typical muskets of the period, which could only fire a single, muzzle loaded shot before needing to be reloaded. The Kalthoff repeater was a type of Repeating rifle repeating firearm that appeared in the seventeenth century and remained unmatched in its fire rate until the mid nineteenth century. As its inventor is unknown, it is named after a family of gunsmiths that has come to be associated with the design. Description The Kalthoff had two magazines, one for blackpowder powder and one for balls some had a third for priming powder . A single forward and back motion on the trigger guard powered a mechanism that deposited a ball and load of powder in the breech loading weapon breech and cocked the gun. Within one or two seconds, it was ready to fire again. A small carrier took the powder from the magazine to the breech, so there was no risk of an accidental ignition in the reserve. Early Kalthoff guns were wheellocks , later they became flintlocks . Some carried six shots, one claims in an inscription on its barrel to have thirty. Use Despite having a remarkably fast fire rate for the time, the Kalthoff could never have become a standard military firearm because of its cost. The mechanism had to be assembled with skill and care, and took far more time to assemble than an ordinary muzzle loader . Also, all the parts were interdependent if a gear broke or jammed, the whole gun was unusable and only a specialist gunsmith could repair it. It needed special care powder fouling, or even powder that was slightly wet, could clog it. Since it was so expensive to buy and maintain, only wealthy individuals and elite soldiers could afford it. The Royal Foot Guards of Denmark were issued with about a hundred of these guns, and they are thought to have been used in the siege of Copenhagen 1658 59 and the Scanian War . Others were ordered for private use or for demonstration. References Harold L. The HDCP repeater bit is a part of the High bandwidth Digital Content Protection specification and applies to intermediate devices between the source device and the display. If an intermediate device is used but any of the components do not support the repeater bit, the HDCP encrypted connection will fail to pass video content. Details A set top receiver connected to an A V receiver via an HDCP encrypted connection may have trouble passing video signals through the A V receiver, even though a direct connection to the display may seem to work well. This relates to the High bandwidth Digital Content Protection HDCP protocol being sent and received, and the authentication process. This is not a fault of the receiver. Set top box manufacturers have become aware of this issue and some set top receiver manufacturers have already implemented firmware changes to their units while others are in the process of updating their units. If a set top receiver being used is having problems passing an HDCP encrypted connection video signal through an A V receiver, contact the manufacturer of the set top receiver to see if an update is available.
