Unreferenced date December 2009 Traditional Persian residential architecture , is the architecture employed by builders and craftsmen in the cultural Greater Iran and the surrounding regions to construct vernacular houses. The art draws from various cultures and elements from both Islamic and pre Islamic times. Background and formation Being situated on the edge of deserts and arid regions, Persian Iranian cities typically have hot summers, and cold, dry winters. Thus Iran s traditional architecture is designed in proportion to its climatic conditions, and more than often, the unique fabled artistic background of Persia makes up for the seemingly lack of natural resources and beauty. A Residential Cluster Development , or conservation development , is the grouping of residential properties on a development site in order to use the extra land as open space, recreation or agriculture. It is increasingly becoming popular in Subdivision land subdivision development for its low impact and sustainability appeal. The idea of clustering housing units dates back to early settlements when houses were grouped to form a common area to defend themselves. Today it serves other advantages, including more green public space , closer community, and an optimal storm water management. Though cluster development has many benefits, it has issues such as outdated zoning , perceptions of personal space and maintenance of common areas. According to William H. Whyte , the author of Cluster Development there are two types of cluster development. Townhouse development and super development. Examples of townhouse development include Morrell Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania , Hartshone in Richmond, and Dudley Square in Shreveport. Examples of Super Development include Reston, Virginia , Crofton, Maryland , and Americana Fairfax in Virginia. Residential zoned parking is a local government practice of designating certain on street automobile parking spaces for the exclusive use of nearby residents. It is a tool for addressing overspill parking from neighboring population centers such as a shopping center , office building , apartment building , transit station , stadium , or central business district . Typically, residents in the zone pay a small fee to the government in exchange for a placard or sticker placed on their automobile s that indicates the zone designation signified by a number or letter . In the United States , residential zoned parking was challenged in 1977 as violating the constitutional right of equal protection of the laws, because it favored one group of people nearby residents over another group of people commuters . However, the United States Supreme Court ruled that the practice did not violate Equal Protection. Since then, it has been put into common practice throughout the United States, and has even been used in non residential areas when a local street s parking is reserved for a business, museum or other facility.
