Their first product was an air bearing straight line tracking tonearm for phonograph playback, this was the first implementation of a captured air bearing for tonearm use and was followed by a more advanced version of the concept which became a market leader in the Comparatively small high end tonearm market. In 1985 Eminent Technology began developing planar magnetic loudspeakers and in 1987 introduced the world s first full range push pull planar magnetic loudspeaker , the LFT 3. Another of the company s products is the so called Thigpen Rotary Woofer . Typical subwoofer products are inefficient at producing desired sound pressure level s at frequencies below 20Hz. The TRW is designed to cover the zero to 20Hz portion of the sound spectrum. In the 90s Eminent Technology developed a smaller planar transducer for automotive applications. Eminent Victorians is a book by Lytton Strachey one of the older members of the Bloomsbury Group , first published in 1918 and consisting of biography biographies of four leading figures from the Victorian era . Its fame rests on the irreverence and wit Strachey brought to bear on three men and a woman who had till then been regarded as heroes and heroine. They were Henry Edward Manning Cardinal Manning Florence Nightingale Thomas Arnold Charles George Gordon General Gordon The book made Strachey s name and placed him firmly in the top rank of biographer s, where he remains. Background Strachey developed the idea for Eminent Victorians in 1912, when he was living on occasional journalism and writing dilettante plays and verse for his Bloomsbury friends. He went to live in the country at East Ilsley and started work on a book then called Victorian Silhouettes containing miniature biographies of a dozen notable Victorian personalities. In November 1912 he wrote to Virginia Woolf that their Victorian predecessors seem to me a set of mouth bungled hypocrites . After his research into the life of Cardinal Manning , he realised he would have difficulty managing twelve lives. In the following year he moved to Wiltshire where he stayed until 1915, by which time he had completed half the book. ref name Levy http www.guardian.co.uk books 2002 jul 20 featuresreviews.guardianreview22 Paul Levy A string quartet in four movements The Guardian, Saturday 20 July 2002 ref By then it was wartime ... an account of a strong individual almost at odds with the world. ref Lytton Strachey Eminent Victorians ... superiority... neither the Americans nor the English have ever, since Eminent Victorians appeared, been ... punctured for good. Sonnets on Eminent Characters or Sonnets on Eminent Contemporaries is an 11 part sonnet series created by Samuel Taylor Coleridge and printed in the Morning Chronicle between 1 December 1794 and 31 January 1795. Although Coleridge promised to have at least 16 poems within the series, only one addition poem, To Lord Stanhope was published. The poems have been moderately received and emphasized for what they reveal about Coleridge s political and philosophical feelings during his early years. Within the poems, he praises 10 individuals that he treats as his heroes along and denounces two people that he feels have turned against their country and liberty. The sonnet series has been compared to John Milton s addressing of sonnets to his own contemporaries in both the types of individuals chosen and the style of composition.
