The Dyfi Estuary Mudflats are mudflat s on the estuary of the RiverDyfi in Ceredigion , Wales , and are part of the Dyfi National Nature Reserve . Ecology The Dyfi Estuary is located on the conjunction of the counties of Ceredigion , Gwynedd and Powys . The area is designated a Special Protection Area SPA , as a protected site classified under Article 4 of the EC Directive on the conservation of wild birds. The area comprises the estuary and adjoining salt marsh and includes sandbank s, mudflats , peat bog s, river channels, meanders and creeks, with an extensive sand dune complex across the mouth of the estuary at Ynyslas Sand Dunes Ynyslas . The river is formed by the confluence of the Shiyli and Terisbutak Rivers, which have their sources on the western slopes of the Mugodzhar Hills, and it joins the Ural River by the city of Orsk . Most of its discharge are from melting snow. The average discharge, 61 km from its mouth, is 21.3 m sek. The spring flooding lasts from April to mid May.
