Established in Leon County, Florida , in 1982, the Chaires Capitola VolunteerFireDepartment serves the communities of Chaires, Florida Chaires and Capitola, Florida Capitola , as well as convert 75 sqmi km2 of unincorporated Leon County, east of Tallahassee . This includes about 8,300 homes and approximately 19,000 residents. The firedepartment has two stations, one in the immediate vicinity of Chaires Elementary School and the Dorothy Cooper Spence Community Center on Chaires Cross Road. This station 12 is shared with the Tallahassee FireDepartment and Leon County Emergency Medical Service, who each provide 24 hour coverage to the area from this location. The second Chaires Capitola VFD station is located near the intersection of Williams Road and Louvinia Drive. In May 2011, the Chaires Capitola VFD boasted an active membership of 21 volunteers. The firedepartment owns six items of wheeled apparatus one fire engine, one tanker truck, two brush trucks, an air power light trailer and one light rescue vehicle. With nine miles 14 km of Interstate Highway 10, eleven miles 18 km of US Highway 90, and eight miles 13 km of US Highway 27, many vehicle accidents are severe due to high speeds. It moved to the Antietam Creek near Sharpsburg, Maryland on September 18, 1862 and was attached to Kenly s Maryland Brigade, VIII Corps ACW VIII Corps , Middle Department. It was moved around to various commands and posts within the VIII Corps until July 1863, when it was attached to the 3rd Brigade, 3rd Division, I Corps ACW I Corps , Army of the Potomac .
