It was created in 1782 for the naval commander George Brydges Rodney, 1st Baron Rodney Sir George Brydges Rodney, 1st Baronet . He had previously been created a Baronet , of Alresford in the County of Southampton, in the Baronetage of Great Britain on 22 January, 1764. His son, the second Baron, represented Northampton UK Parliament constituency Northampton in Parliament. He was succeeded by his eldest son, the third Baron. He served as Lord Lieutenant of Radnorshire . His younger brother, the fourth Baron, assumed by Royal license the additional surname of Harley in 1804. On his death the titles passed to his younger brother, the fifth Baron. He was Rector of Elmley in Kent. He was succeeded by his nephew, the sixth Baron. He was the son of Captain the Hon. Robert Rodney, fourth son of the second Baron. Rodney is a former community in Pushmataha County, Oklahoma , five miles north of Antlers, Oklahoma . A United States Post Office was established at Rodney, Indian Territory on June 30, 1890 and closed on July 5, 1899. The community was named for Rodney Moyer, early day resident. It was located at the site of Rodney Crossing, a low water ford on the Kiamichi River . ref George H. As timber was logged from nearby mountainsides the saw mill relocated to other areas deeper within the mountains. Rodney s namesake, Rodney Moyer, left the area to participate in Alaska s Klondike gold rush at about the time of the community s disestablishment, according to information made available to the Pushmataha County Historical Society .
