Unreferenced date December 2009 Sydney Ernest Rogers November 11, 1888&ndash September 10, 1965 was a Manitoba politician. Between 1937 and 1941, he was the leader of the province s Manitoba Social Credit Party Social Credit Party . Rogers was born on the Isle of Wight in England . He moved to Canada with his family in 1897, and later worked as a farmer. He was elected Reeve Canada reeve of Sheel River municipality in 1920, and held this position for well over a decade. In 1936, Rogers was a candidate for the newly formed Social Credit League in Manitoba. This party was influenced by the recent victory of William Aberhart in Alberta , and promised a similar program of monetary reform. The party did not have a leader during the election, but nevertheless succeeded in electing five of its candidates. Rogers was elected in the riding of Roblin Manitoba riding Roblin . The five member caucus subsequently chose Stanley Fox as the party s leader. Fox stepped down in 1937, and was replaced by Rogers. In 1940, Rogers was responsible for bringing Social Credit into the all party coalition government proposed by Manitoba Liberal Party Liberal Progressive Premier John Bracken . Rogers did not join cabinet, standing aside for Norman Turnbull to become a minister without portfolio . The decision to join government split the Social Credit ranks, and several of the party s candidates in 1941 ran against the coalition. Rogers, Fox and Turnbull all government supporters were the only party members re elected, and the group does not seem to have had a leader during the parliament which followed. The Social Credit group, in fact, came to be regarded as little more than an appendage of the Liberal Conservative coalition. Rogers retired from the legislature in 1945, and died twenty years later. Biography Shortly after his birth in New York City, Rogers family moved to Wellesley, Massachusetts , where he grew up. He went to Wellesley High School and then went on to do his undergraduate work at The Boston Conservatory . He then began an extensive acting career in the Boston theater circuit, working with people from Israel Horowitz to Cam Neely . In 1992 he attended Wayne State University for his graduate work. BLP sources date September 2009 Mark E. Rogers born 1952 is an American author illustrator. Biography Rogers, while a student at Pt. Pleasant Beach High School, wrote a short novel, The Runestone , which has since been adapted into Willard Carroll s 1990 The Runestone film starring Peter Riegert and Joan Severance , although it remains unpublished. At the University of Delaware he continued his interest in writing, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1975. He was elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa . He since became a professional writer. His published works include the Samurai Cat series a number of novels, The Dead novel The Dead , Zorachus , and the latter s sequel, The Nightmare of God a series of books known as Blood of the Lamb and another series called Zancharthus . He has also published three art portfolios and a collection of his pin up paintings, Nothing But A Smile .
