  1. Audio router

Used for transporting sound audio signals from inputs to outputs. Inputs and Outputs The number of inputs and outputs varies dramatically. The way routers are described is normally number of inputs by number of outputs e.g. 2x1, 256x256. Signals The type of signals transported switched can be Analog signal analogue Analog audio signals or Digital . Digital audio usually is in the AES EBU standard for broadcast use. Broadband routers can route more than one signal type eg analogue or more than one type of digital. Crosspoints Because any of the inputs can be routed to any output, the internal arrangement of the router is arranged as a number of crosspoints which can be activated to pass the corresponding signal to the desired output. 1. One-armed router

A Stub router , One armed router or router on a stick is a router computing router that routes traffic between virtual local area networks Virtual LAN VLANs . It has only a single Ethernet Network Interface Controller NIC that is part of two or more Virtual LANs, enabling them to be joined. A VLAN allows multiple virtual Local Area Network LANs to coexist on the same physical Local Area Network LAN . This means that two machines attached to the same switch cannot send Ethernet frames to each other even though they pass over the same wires. If they need to communicate, then a router computing router must be placed between the two VLANs to forward packets, just as if the two Local Area Network LANs were physically isolated. The only difference is that the router in question may contain only a single Ethernet NIC that is part of both VLANs. Hence, one armed . 1. ICMP Router Discovery Protocol

ICMP Internet Router Discovery Protocol IRDP uses Internet Control Message Protocol ICMP Router computing router advertisements and router solicitation messages to allow a host to discover the addresses of operational routers on the subnetwork subnet . It basically consists of 2 Message Types see Internet Control Message Protocol List of permitted control messages incomplete list this list used for discovering local routers. The message type 9 is sent periodically or on request using a message of type 10 to the local subnet from the local router s to propagate themselves. On boot, the client may send a ICMP Message of type 10 to ask for local routers. When a client receives a message type 9, they add the router to their local routing table. 1. Label edge router

A label edge router LER , also known as edge LSR is a Router computing router that operates at the edge of an Multiprotocol Label Switching network. When forwarding Internet Protocol IP datagram s into the MPLS domain, it uses routing information to determine appropriate labels to be affixed, labels the packet accordingly, and then forwards the labelled packets into the MPLS domain. Likewise, upon receiving a labelled packet which is destined to exit the MPLS domain, the LER strips off the label and forwards the resulting IP packet using normal IP forwarding rules. 1. Label switch router

A label switch router LSR sometimes called transit router , is a type of a Router computing router located in the middle of a Multiprotocol Label Switching MPLS network. It is responsible for switching the labels used to route packet information technology packet s. When an LSR receives a packet, it uses the label included in the packet header as an index to determine the next hop on the Label Switched Path LSP and a corresponding label for the packet from a look up table . The old label is then removed from the header and replaced with the new label before the packet is routed forward. 1. Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol

The Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol VRRP is a computer networking protocol that provides for automatic ... of multiple routers, i.e. master and backup router computing router s, acting as a group. The default gateway of a participating host is assigned to the virtual router instead of a physical router. If the physical router that is routing packets on behalf of the virtual router fails, another physical router is selected to automatically replace it. The physical router that is forwarding packets at any given time is called the master router. VRRP provides information on the state of a router, not the routes processed and exchanged by that router. Each VRRP instance is limited, in scope, to a single ... IETF source ref Implementation A virtual router must use 00 00 5E 00 01 XX as its Media Access Control MAC address. The last byte of the address XX is the Virtual Router IDentifier VRID , which is different for each virtual router in the network. This address is used by only one physical router at a time, and it will reply with this MAC address when an ARP request is sent for the virtual router s IP address. Physical routers within the virtual router must communicate within themselves using packets ... of between 1 255 and the router with the highest priority will become the master. 1. Router table (woodworking)

A router table is a stationary woodworking machine in which a vertically oriented Spindle tool spindle of a woodworking Router woodworking router protrudes from the machine table and can be spun at speeds typically between 3000 and 24,000 rpm. Cutter heads router bits may be mounted in the spindle chuck. As the workpiece is fed into the machine, the cutters mold a profile into it. The machine normally features a vertical fence , against which the workpiece is guided to control the horizontal depth of cut. Varieties Router tables exist in three varieties floor standing machines accessories bolted into table saw s small Workbench woodworking bench top machines Use Router tables are used in one of three ways. In all cases, an accessory is used to direct the workpiece. A fence is used, with the router bit partially emerging from the fence. The workpiece is then moved against the fence, and the exposed portion of the router bit removes material from the workpiece. No fence is used. A template is affixed to the workpiece, and a router bit with a ball bearing guide is used. The ball bearing guide bears against the template, and the router bit removes material from the workpiece so as to make the workpiece the same shape as the template. A pin router accessory is used. A pin router accessory is an over arm that rises from one edge or corner of the router table, arcs over the table, and descends directly coaxially towards the spindle of the router. The end of the arm has a guide pin. A template with an interior recess on the top face removed is affixed to the workpiece, and the guide pin is lowered into this recess. The template is then moved against the pin, carrying the workpiece against the spinning router bit. History Router tables evolved as shop improvised tools. 1. Router alert label

Wikify date April 2010 Orphan date November 2006 In MPLS , a label with the value of 1 represents the Router Alert Label . This label value is legal anywhere in the label stack except at the bottom. When a received packet contains this label value at the top of the label stack, it is delivered to a local software module for processing. The actual forwarding of the packet is determined by the label beneath it in the stack. However, if the packet is forwarded further, the Router Alert Label should be pushed back onto the label stack before forwarding. The use of this label is analogous to the use of the Router Alert Option in IP packets. Since this label cannot occur at the bottom of the stack, it is not associated with a particular network layer protocol.
