Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 RCAF The Royal Canadian Air Force Police was responsible for military police functions for the Royal Canadian Air Force RCAF . In 1940 the RCAF set up the Guards and Discipline Branch, which later changed its name to the Directorate of Provost and Security Services DPSS . The DPSS provided police mainly for guard, security, and disciplinary duties. After the war when the air force expanded to meet NATO commitments, the RCAF Service Police also expanded to meet the responsibilities of policing the larger and increasing number air force stations in Canada and Europe. The RCAF Service Police was formally renamed the Air Force Police AFP in 1955, although it was still often referred to as the Service Police . Following amalgamation of the three services into the Canadian Forces in 1968, the AFP was merged with the police units of the Royal Canadian Navy and Canadian Army to become simply the Canadian Forces Military Police Military Police under the Canadian Armed Forces Security and Intelligence Branch . 1. Royal Air Force station

A Royal Air Force station is a permanent Royal Air Force military base operations location . Many RAF stations are aerodrome s, or airbase s, being the home to one or more flight flying Squadron aviation squadrons . Other RAF stations are training units, administrative units, headquarters HQ , or carry out ground based operational tasks. Although many RAF units are often called stations, they can only be properly classified as an RAF station if they are self accounting with their own station commander and headquarters. ref name RAF web http www.rafweb.org Org index.htm ref Units without a station commander or headquarters staff will ordinarily be a satellite of an RAF station proper. History In the early years of the RAF, very few of its bases were classified as stations. Some bases which were locally known as RAF location name were officially listed under the unit s title. For example, No. 1 Stores Depot was at RAF Kidbrooke which was described as No. 1 Stores Depot in the official lists. In the years before World War II the RAF went through a period of rapid expansion. One means of achieving this expansion was to group several units together at one location, which then required a separate headquarters staff. This resulted in a considerable growth in the number of stations. ref name RAF web Structure File Royal Air Force Station Commander.svg thumb right Vehicle plate for an RAF station commander The Commanding Officer CO in charge of an RAF station is titled as the Station Commander ... the emblem is surrounded by a light blue ring containing the words Royal Air Force Station , and the station ....
