CBBC s Rule the School is a modern role reversal, reality TV show for teenagers. The basis of the show was to take five talented school pupils and 10 school teachers and swap roles. The pupils became the teachers and the teachers became the pupils. The series first aired in 2002, with lessons including text messaging, break dancing, computer gaming, customising clothes, popstar skills and funky footballing . The series was nominated for a BAFTA in 2003 when lessons included dance, rap and, slightly more conventionally, physical education. In 2004 the timetable included dance lessons, djing, skateboarding and fashion. The BAFTA nominated show ended in 2005 after four seasons, with lessons including Music taught by Nathan Crossan Smith , Dance taught by Jess Pearson , IT Factor taught by Lauren Davies , Taekwondo taught by Rene Cowan and Web Design taught by Ross Easton . The Headteacher was Adelaide Lumor who also appeared in the 2007 Muller commercial Lid Lickers . The show was presented by Jake Humphrey . The Teachers The Five Rule the School teachers represented a cross section of society. The young teaching team consisted of young adults around 12 14 age range picked from a diverse selection of schools and groups around the UK. Each young person selected to take part in the project had an area of speciality they were confident and able to teach adults about. They had their own policies on punishments, budgets, lesson plans and even dress code. The Pupils The ten Rule the School pupils were an equally colourful and diverse bunch. Rule High School was a public high school in Knoxville, Tennessee . It opened in 1927 and closed in 1991. The school was named after Knoxville newspaper editor Captain William Rule American editor William Rule 1839&ndash 1928 . When it originally opened in the fall of 1927, it was an elementary junior high school with 525 students enrolled in the elementary grades and 261 in the junior high and high school grades. Lower grades were dropped year after year, until eventually the school just had grades 7 9. An effort was made to append a grade 12 to the school curriculum, however that initially fell through. On April 14, 1937, 600 students from grades seven through 11, wanting a 12th grade, staged a walkout protest. The protest was reported on the front page of the New York Times . On May 9, 1938 the school board decided to add a 12th grade. RULE Run Up to Date Linux Everywhere is a project that aims to use up to date Linux software on old PCs 5 years old or more , by recompiling and changing some code to recent programs in order to make them use less resources so they can run conveniently. The reasons The principal advantages of using old PCs with up to date software are support for more up to date standards HTML4, Java, etc. more secure to use because of patched security holes old PCs may consume less energy than new ones, making them cheaper to use and reducing pollution re use PCs that would otherwise be discarded, thus reducing e waste PCs are not cheap, especially for third world or Eastern European countries, or for big volumes for example a school needs a lot of PCs. Information about the project The distributions of GNU Linux that have been the focus for the project are Fedora Core and Red Hat, but users developers of other distributions are welcomed. The main activity of the RULE site is to test contributors packages and provide user documentation and easy installation procedures.
