  1. Script theory

Script theory is a psychological theory which posits that human behaviour largely falls into patterns called scripts because they function analogously to the way a written script does, by providing a program for action. Silvan Tomkins created script theory as a further development of his Affect theory , which regards human beings emotional responses to stimuli as falling into categories called affects he noticed that the purely biological response of affect may be followed by awareness and by what we cognitively do in terms of acting on that affect so that more was needed to produce a complete explanation of what he called human being theory . In Script theory, the basic unit of analysis is called a scene , defined as a sequence of events linked by the affects triggered during the experience of those events. Tomkins recognised that our affective experiences fall into patterns that we may group together according to criteria such as the types of persons and places involved and the degree of intensity of the effect experienced, which patterns in turn constitute scripts that inform our behaviour in an effort to maximize positive affect and to minimize negative affect. 1. Khom script

about the secret script invented by Lao rebels the Ancient Khmer script called khom in Thai, used for Buddhist manuscripts and yantras Khmer alphabet There are two scripts in Southeast Asia called Khom script . This article describes the obscure script from Laos that Sidwell 2008 and Jacq 2001 have described under the name Khom script . This Khom script is unique in the way it divides syllables. It has one set of symbols to represent initial consonants. Then it uses another set of symbols to represent the final vowel and consonant. That is, unlike a syllabary which has unitary symbols for consonants followed by vowels CV , with maybe a vowelless consonant following , Khom script divides the syllable as C VC, rather than CV C. This is unique, not readily accommodated in any of the existing typologies of scripts. The script was invented by Ong Kommandam Ong Kommadam , a leader in the rebellion against the French colonizers. He began using the script as early as 1924, but its use did not continue after his death in 1936. Ong Kommadam claimed supernatural titles, including King of the Khom , God of the Khom , Sky God of the Khom Sidwell 2008 17 . The script was linked to his divine claims, messages written in this script carried mystical power as well as meaning. The script was revealed to outsiders by old, dying insiders on two separate occasions. Some of the symbols resemble those from nearby scripts, but many are original. Khom is also used to refer to the Ancient Khmer lettering used in Thailand s Buddhist temples to inscribe sacred Buddhist mantras and prayers. References Jacq, Pascale. 2001. 1. Script market

A script market is the system in which a screenwriter and producer engage in the buying and selling of a script for the film and television industries. The process of selling a script may begin with the pitch, however since the end of the 1980s the ability to pitch a film to producers has greatly depended on the notoriety of the screenwriter. One reason attributed to this effect is that studios are looking for the next big hit, but scared to take a chance on a script that doesn t meet a pre established formula guaranteed to make money since no one knows what will work. The majority of scripts are read by studio interns and others, who give the scripts a consider , pass , or recommend status, with most scripts receiving a pass rating. However, an agent who s signed the Artists Managers Agreement drawn up by the Writers Guild of America can submit scripts to producers directly ref cite book last Field first Syd title Screenplay The Foundations of Screenwriting year 2005 publisher Bantam Dell Random House, Inc location New York isbn 9780385339032 pages 298 ref . Agents try to create buzz using in the script market using spec script . ref McDonald, Paul & Wasko, Janet. 2008 The Contemporary Hollywood Film Industry . Malden,MA Blackwell Publishing Ltd. p. 46 48 ref With everyone in the entertainment industry trying to pursue the million dollar dream, and Hollywood so desperate for new material ideas, the script market functions and business practices have been pursued in the spec script manner. Studio executives, producers, and agents don t have time to read every script, so readers or script analysts prepare script coverage for them. Spec scripts are written in hopes of being purchased by a producer or studio. A spec script can be passed around by an agent, which can create a bidding war. The spec script process is considered by some to be problematic, due to the fact that the bidding process can attract inflated prices from the boosting of mediocre scripts. ref cite book ...   more details
