Remigius d. Lyon , October 28, 875 was archbishop of Lyon . Nothing is known of him before his elevation to the episcopate on March 31, 852. He played a prominent part in French ecclesiastical history. He was Archicapellanus from 855 to 863, which was a position of influence. He figures among the leading members of several synods, and presided over the Synod of Valence in 855. He participated in the predestination controversy which had been precipitated on the church by Gottschalk of Orbais Gottschalk , whom, like some other leaders, he defended. This brought him up against the still more powerful Hincmar of Reims , who, in the Synod of Chiersy held in 853, got the endorsement of his four chapters on predestination. But these the synod of Valence refused to ratify and, on the contrary, passed six canons ref Hefele , Conciliengeschichte , iv. 193 sqq. ref against Hincmar s position, and they were reaffirmed by the Synod of Langres in 859, which was proof of Remigius influence. In the national Synod of Savoni res which immediately followed, Remigius presented these canons to Charles the Bald . When Remigius came into his rule he found that certain sources of revenue which he thought properly belonged to his diocese had been taken from it. He set about regaining this lost revenue, and brilliantly succeeded. For these and other services his grateful people canonized him. Other people John the Deacon John the Deacon d. after 910 was a religious writer and deacon , or head of a diaconate at the church of Januarius Saint Januarius in Naples . He flourished towards the end of the ninth and the beginning of the tenth century, and from his writings appears to have been a very learned and accomplished cleric . He wrote several historical works, important sources of information for the history of his time. He first wrote a continuation of the diocesan chronicle of Naples Gesta episcoporum Neapolitanorum , begun by another cleric, but which he brings down from 762 to 872. He makes use of both written and oral tradition, and contributes from personal knowledge. The narrative is graphic and spirited, and impresses the reader as a frank and accurate story. ref ed. Bernard of Besse was a French Friar Minor and chronicler. He was a native of Aquitaine , with date of birth uncertain he belonged to the custody of Cahors and was secretary to St. Bonaventure . He took up the pen after the Seraphic Doctor, he tells us, to gather the ears the latter had dropped from his sheaf, lest anything of so great a memory as that of Francis of Assisi St. Francis might perish. Works His Liber de Laudibus Beati Francisci , composed about 1280, besides a resume of some of the earlier legends, contains brief and valuable information about the companions of St. Francis and the foundation of the three Franciscan Order s, and is the only thirteenth century document which specifies the first biographies of St. Francis. About 1297 1300 he compiled a catalogue of the ministers general up to his time, which is also a source of importance for the study of Franciscan history. Critical editions of both these works have been published by the Friars Minor of Quaracchi in Analecta Franciscana , III 1897 , 666 707 and by Father Hilarin Felder of Lucerne, O. M. Cap. orphan date April 2010 Karl von Haimhausen originally Aymausen b. at Munich , of a noble Bavarian family, 28 May 1692 d. in Chile , 7 April 1767 was a German Jesuit theologian and missionary. Life On 20 October 1702, he entered the Society of Jesus, and, in 1724, went as a missionary to Chile. He was a professor of theology and for many years rector of the Collegium Maximum at Santiago, Chile Santiago . Chile having been constituted an independence province of the order in 1624, Father Haimhausen was made provincial procurator, master of novices, and instructor. He acted as confessor to Spanish bishops and the viceroy. Haimhausen completed the college church in Santiago, and built a novitiate establishment and two houses for spiritual retreats, with churches attached to them. He als promoted local economic and industrial development. Haimhausen founded an arts and crafts school at Calera , near Santiago, with assistance from Germany. Here the ateliers of the bell founder, the watchmaker and the goldsmith, the organ builder and the furniture maker, and the studios of the painter and sculptor turned out products not before made in Chile.
