The United Federal Party , previously known as the United Party and the United Rhodesia Party , was one of Southern Rhodesia s most successful political parties, and governed the country known since 1980 as Zimbabwe for over 30 years. The party was formed as the United Party UP in 1934, under the leadership of Godfrey Huggins , when the ruling Reform Party merged with the Rhodesian Party formed by Charles Patrick John Coghlan Charles Coghlan in 1923 . The UP had a clear majority at every election between 1934 and 1958 except 1946, when Huggins still managed to remain as Prime Minister. When in 1953 the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland came into being and the colony of Southern Rhodesia became a territory alongside Northern Rhodesia and Nyasaland , the United Party changed its name to the United Rhodesia Party, and in 1958 yet another merger took place, when the United Rhodesia Party merged with the Federal party to form the United Federal Party. In the same year the party split following the sacking of the liberal Garfield Todd , who unsuccessfully contested the 1958 general election as head of a revived United Rhodesia Party . In 1962 the United Federal Party lost the Southern Rhodesia general election, 1962 general election to the more conservative Rhodesian Front , and ceased to function effectively as a political force after the 1965 election and Unilateral Declaration of Independence Rhodesia UDI . Of the 29 members elected in 1962, 14 were district seats representing primarily African voters. The moderate current of white Rhodesian opinion referred to by Ian Smith and others as the old liberal establishment failed to win a seat between 1965 and 1979, represented through such parties as the Centre Party, Rhodesia Party and National Unifying Force. The work of sculptor Ron Robertson Swann , Vault is an Abstract art abstract , minimalist sculpture built of large thick flat polygonal sheets of prefabricated steel, assembled in a way that suggests dynamic movement. It is painted orange. Presently located outside the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art , it is a key work in Melbourne s public art collection, and of considerable historical importance to the city. Vault has weathered much controversy throughout its existence. Commissioned by the Melbourne City Council in 1978 for the newly built City Square, Melbourne Melbourne City Square , the sculpture was not even built before it began to attract criticism from conservative media and council factions, on the grounds that its modern form was felt to be unsympathetic to the location. The cost of 70,000 was also felt to be excessive. The sculpture, which officially had no title at this date, was given the derogatory nickname The Yellow Peril by the newspapers, a name which has stuck. Installed in the City Square in May 1980, Vault lasted until December of that year, when its dismantling coincided with the Government of Victoria State Government s sacking of the City Council. The Builders Labourers Federation consequently placed bans on further City Square work projects. In 1981 Vault was re erected at Batman Park named after John Batman and remained there in neglect and obscurity until 2002 when it was restored and moved to its current Southbank, Victoria Southbank location. The Fifth Mountain by Paulo Coelho was published in 1996 and was his fourth major publication. The story is based on the story of Elijah from the Hebrew The Bible Bible 1 Books of Kings Kings chapters 17 19 . The focus is on Elijah s time in Sarepta Zarephath in this book named Akbar . Much has been added to the simple Bible story by Coelho, including Elijah witnessing the sacking of Akbar by the Assyria ns, Elijah s journey up the Fifth Mountain itself said to be the dwelling place of Baal , and Elijah s falling in love with the widow to whom God sent him. This story may be considered religious in focus, despite a strong focus on the theme of rebellion against God. In this book, Coelho has explored the manner in which the prophetic questioning of authority, rebellion and liberty liberation , and thinking for oneself are important in one s relationship with God and one s life work. At the same time the novel is a powerful metaphor of human self confidence and strong desire for self fulfillment by helping other humans. The protagonist finds ultimately the strength to overcome all misfortunes in himself in his deeply human desire to help the others and to be creative. And he finds out that God is in his own heart. Plot summary For a considerable portion of the story Elijah is very compliant, obeying everything God s angels say. Eventually he realizes that his destiny is not being chosen by him but by God and ultimately, he decides to abide by his own desires and will. In this way Coelho suggests that Elijah was able to reach an ultimate level of spiritual awareness and have the most powerful relationship with God. 1990s novel stub Paulo Coelho DEFAULTSORT Fifth Mountain, The Category 1996 novels Category Novels by Paulo Coelho Category Brazilian novels Category Portuguese language novels Category Novels based on the Bible ar de Der f nfte Berg es La quinta monta a fr La Cinqui me Montagne it Monte Cinque ka ne pl Pi ta G ra pt ... more details

Upon the arrival of the consular army of Gaius Aurelius to their aid, the 5,000 soldiers were moved to Etruria . Unreferenced date December 2009 Hem , named Cai at birth is a Minor Magic Bard Bard in the Pellinor series of fantasy adventure books by Alison Croggon . He is the brother of Maerad and like her has amazing Bardic skills. At a very early age, Cai, as he was then known, was taken from his home by a group of Magic Hulls Hulls during the sacking of Pellinor. They renamed him Hem, to better fit the realm in which they lived, and spent much effort and energy in trying to pervert him and bring him to the side of the Dark. Powers and abilities Hem has a large Bardic power, as he is of the house of Karn. As with his sister Maerad, his raw power seems huge. Although little has been seen of his performing magery, he has not been tired by it, and has mastered complex spells, leading to speculation that he is of the same strength as Maerad. If indeed he is, he will be able to do similar feats as she, including conversing in the Elidhu language without needing to learn it. He seems largely skilled in deceptive magery &mdash eg glimmerspells and shadowveils, which are used to disguise or conceal &mdash possibly because of needing to do so in his early childhood, and he is also naturally gifted in Healing . Possessions Due to his early kidnapping, Hem owns few items. His most cherished possession is the symbol of the House of Karn which he keeps in a cloth bag held closely round his neck . He is accompanied a white crow named Irc, who in some ways is his familiar spirit familiar . Hem has recently been told by a Tree Elidhu that he is the second Foretold One, as both the brother and sister are needed one to sing the Treesong and one to play the tune and listen. It is designed for extinguishing minor fire s in rural areas such as Heath habitat heaths . A flapper is built with a long handle and a series of lamella zoology lamella s which allows firefighter s to stand well back from the fire. The lamellas are constructed in either rubber or steel , though practically any other fireproof material could be used. The fire is attacked from the wind side by lightly swatting out the flame s or glows with the thick flap. When the flapper hits the ground oxygen supply to the fire is stopped and the fire will be extinguished. Where ground cover is short, the flapper can be dragged along the fire edge to smother the fire. If used too hard it can add more oxygen to the fire. It is often recommended to either hose water on the area or keep it under observation, as there will always be a risk of it flaring up later. Due to a flapper s small size it is unfit for use against a blazing forest fire or large burning fields. The tool s design makes it only suitable for minor flames or glows within a limited area. For fire fighting in larger areas it is much more convenient to take out hoses from a Fire apparatus Fire engine fire engine and spray selected areas. Alternatively a water cannon from a water tender can be used. A flapper is often part of the standard equipment on a fire engine and may also be set up inside and around forests and at heaths in order to take immediate action if a fire is seen. The flapper s technique has been developed from using a wet green pine bough to swat the fire known as wet sacking a fire. George D. Lundberg is a physician , board certified board certified pathologist , and, from February 1999 to January 2009, editor of Medscape . ref Cite web url http www.medscape.com viewarticle 587141 title So Long but Not Farewell The Medscape Journal of Medicine 1999 2009 ref For 17 years prior to joining Medscape Dr. Lundberg served as editor of the Journal of the American Medical Association Journal of the American Medical Association JAMA . One month before joining Medscape Lundberg was dramatically fired from JAMA by E. Ratcliffe Anderson, who was then executive vice president of the American Medical Association AMA over a research study report from the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction Kinsey Institute that Lundberg had selected for publication. The JAMA article reported, among other things, that 60 of college students surveyed in 1991 considered oral sex as not having sex, which Anderson said was inappropriately and inexcusably timed to influence the debate over the Impeachment of Bill Clinton and to extract political leverage. Lundberg subsequently successfully sued the AMA and was awarded an undisclosed settlement. Anderson was later fired himself as a result of other unrelated disputes with the AMA board. Rinaldo degli Albizzi 1370 1442 was an Italian nobleman, a member of the Florentine family of the Albizzi . Together with Palla Strozzi , he was the main opponent of Cosimo de Medici s rise in Florence. After the Volterran revolt against Florence in 1428, Rinaldo degli Albizzi was sent to reacquire Volterra from rebels led by priors and Giovanni di Contugi . Afterwards, Rinaldo incited Niccol Fortebraccio to attack the Lucchese under cover of some fictitious quarrel , ref Florentine Histories , Niccol Machiavelli ref an action that led Florence to the conquest of Lucca . During this campaign, Rinaldo degli Albizzi was accused of attempting to increase his own wealth through sacking. He was eventually removed from his position and recalled to Florence. Later, in the 1430s, Rinaldo convinced several prominent nobles to strike out against Cosimo de Medici , whom he feared was getting too powerful. Eventually, Rinaldo helped Bernardo Guadagni, a candidate for a position among the Signori, pay off his debts, which had been disqualifying him to run for office. Guadagni won the position of Gonfaloniere of Justice Gonfalonier . Through Guadagni, Rinaldo summoned Cosimo to the palace, where he was captured. After a short trial, Cosimo was sentenced to 20 years exile from Florence. However, with the downturn of Florentine fortunes in the war with Milan , Cosimo returned with popular acclamation barely a year later, and Rinaldo was in his turn exiled. He died at Ancona .
