Norbert Provencher , a priest and future bishop, who ordered its construction in 1818 in the form of a small log chapel. History The church is still very young The history of this church starts in 1919. After World War II the building was damaged and needed building repairs. As a consequence of the increased member number, is was decided to build a new building and pull down the old one. The architect Johannes Schilling from Cologne was charged with the organisation of the new building. The new church was consecrated by the Archbishop of Paderborn Johannes Joachim Degenhardt on 6 June 1981. After the church itself and the Kindergarten Saint Boniface were built, a Pfarrheim was added. This building was finished in 1988. Since 2004 the church is administrated together with the churches Saint Heinrich and Saint Stephanus in Paderborn. This administrative unit of three churches is named Pastoralverbund Paderborn Nord Ost . In future it is planned to add three more churches to the Pastoralverbund. Groups and organisations The church has an own youth organisation, the Bonijugend . This organisation organises activities for children at the age of 9 years and helps with events of the church. It is located in the oldest building in Winnipeg, a former convent run by the Grey Nuns Grey Sisters . Begun in 1846 and finished in 1851, the former nunnery has been an orphanage, a school, a seniors home, and was the first incarnation of the St. Boniface General Hospital Winnipeg St. Boniface Hospital . The museum contains many Franco Manitoban and M tis people Canada M tis artifacts. History The first Grey Nuns who lived in this house arrived in 1844, and lived with Bishop Norbert Provencher until the house had been started. The nuns moved into the house in December 1846, at which time only the exterior walls of the first floor and the floor of the second floor above the kitchen had been completed. Due to the extreme temperatures of the region, it was necessary to somehow insulate the room. The nuns used bison pelts hung from the ceiling to do this. When the building was finished, there was a basement, two floors and an attic. The building was built using the Red River Colony Red River construction method also called mortise and tenon or tongue and groove . The building uses no nails to hold it together. Since the late 1960s, the nunnery has been administered by first, the city of Saint Boniface, Manitoba Saint Boniface , then the City of Winnipeg after the amalgamation of 1971.     Boniface of Verona died 1317 was an Italian people Lombard Crusades Crusader in Latin Greece during the early fourteenth century. From 1296 he was, in right of his wife, Agnes of Cicone, the Lord of Karystos , a Lordship of Negroponte triarch of Negroponte , and a great lord in the Duchy of Athens , owning thirteen castles there as a gift from Guy II de la Roche Duke Guy II . Because he had a friendly rapport with the Catalan Company , he was spared in the great Battle of Halmyros , where most of the chivalry of Athens perished alongside their duke, Walter V of Brienne 1311 . He was taken captive after the battle, but was asked by the Catalans to be their leader and governor of the Duchy of Athens. Fearing reprisals from the Republic of Venice in Negroponte, he declined the honour and it was instead given to Roger Deslaur . In 1317, Boniface finally came to a full alliance with the Catalans he married his daughter Maria Marulla to Alfonso Fadrique . Boniface dispossessed his own son Thomas of his inheritance and bestowed it upon his son in law. He died later that year. Because of a person friendship the chronicler Ramon Muntaner , Boniface received hearty praise as the wisest and most courteous noble ever born.
